Hello,
I made a post a week ago regarding to the death of my 6990m. I got a few suggestion on what card to replace. I came down to the 770m or the 8970m.
I read the reviews on notebookcheck. 8970m is ranked above 680m, but in the description it said is between a 680m and 675mx performance wise which is exactly where the 770m is placed. I'm abit confused because everyone is comparing the 8970m to a 780m. How much performance difference r there between the 770m and the 8970m?
If they're similar I will get the 770m due to lower power consumption and lack of confident in ati since the 6990m failed so quickly and the p170hm doesn't support onboard graphics.
Thanks

Whats the price difference between the two? Thats what it came down for me. Some resellers had a £150 to £200 price difference (the 8970M being more obviously), but the one i got it from (Schenker) listed it as only £11 more. I asked this very same question on several websites (including this one), and the consensus was to go with the 8970M since it has about +20%/+25% performance over the 770M for just £11 more. I've been told that the AMD drivers are pretty mature and solid as well.

8970 much stronger. 7970m is a bit stronger then 770m if im not mistaken.

I guess will go for the 8970m, but I'm still abit concern about its longevity. I don't want to all replace another card in a year and a half again when I pass on this laptop to a family member.
Thanks for the help -

The 770M is going to be a fun card, tweakable and fairly cool running. However it does not quite have the muscle of the 8970M.
