    Hi guys.

I'm STILL having thermal issues with my 780m.
I've read multiple people having the same issue.
Is running at 92 degrees going to have a detrimental affect on my card?
Though, when it does get to 92 degrees, it does throttle a little.
Is it likely a BIOS update will fix this?
Any mods or new parts I can try? I'm really pulling my hair out now.

I've done repaste after repaste. Still no joy.

92C is not ideal but not quite dangerous yet. Have you reapplied thermal compound and cleaned out the vents and fans?
You can also try propping up the back of the computer which sometimes helps with better airflow.

I feel your frustration dquancey. It sucks especially when your running at everything stock speeds and your already getting temps that are close to going beyond spec. It's a shame because everything else about the machine is basically perfect.

What are the normal max temps for the 780m for the P177SM?
Looks like some people even with OC have temps around 80's, wouldn't be fun having the GPU with stock clocks reaching 92° and throttling

I know personally mine was much like dquancey's, ie within 30 mins of gameplay i would reach 91/92. Mine was a 170SM but it should have identical cooling to the 177SM.

I'm also curious to know why people are wildly reporting such different temps. Maybe it depends from which reseller you purchase it from and consequently what sort of thermal paste they use? Mine was using stock factory paste, but I also tried applying some Artic MX-2 myself which didn't help.

Just to show how wildly different temps are, this review done by Anandtech also reported seeing gaming temps reaching a max of 65-80C on the 157SM. I know for a fact that a single gaming session would easily reach 90C.

I wonder how many see 80C max and how many see 90C+ max in the P150SM, P157SM, P170SM, P177SM. Maybe a survey of temps and which retailer?

I wonder if the retailer or end user repaste is different than the factory paste? Maybe the motherboard version is at issue? Maybe when they fixed the second hard drive port the chip runs hotter or cooler.

Having to deal with heat throttling without over clocking is not cool.

My retailer uses Artic Silver 5, now I can only hope they do a good job with the pasting. Would be really great to see full load temps at 80-85 C

Have you tried overclocking to maybe 1-2Mhz higher than stock? Maybe that will turn off the turbo function and spare some heat.

You can also use NvidiaInspector to set a fps cap of 59 fps.

Buy the Top GPU and underclock doesnt make sense =/.
Not just we want be able to play at least with GPU Boost at its maximum 850mhz without throtling but even OC it eventually.

Ok, I figure I might as well ask. I have a P150EM with a GTX 675M. I figured my temps are ok, but what do you guys recommend? I have Arctic Silver for repasting, I thought about it, but, the heatsink is so clamped to the GPU I was scared I was going to damage something. When I get 99-100% usage, games like SWTOR, BF3, ArmA III... I see my max temp reported from HWMonitor is 97*C. I know most people here will say that is too high. But I've been at that for almost a year now with never having a single issue. Do I really need to repaste? And if so, how do I remove the heatsink, like I said it feels super tightly attached after loosening screws.

I would suggest u do a research about the 675M temps to see what can be considered normal, maybe if u have high room temps it might not be that bad for this GPU.

So, should we start a new Poll thread to find out what temps people are seeing in these four models with the 780M?

OK, looks like the onous is on me. So, how does this look?

    Title: 780M temps in P150SM, P157SM, P170SM, P177SM?
Poll title within thread: What temps are you seeing after gaming for at least 30 min.

    Options:
    75C or under
    around 80C
    around 85C
    around 90C
    91-92C
    93C or more

    ----------

Do the options look good, as in will it give us good data?

I will then ask that they post thier model, the exact temps they see, motherboard revision, purchase date, and any other details that might help.

The question should be "What are your temps in full load?", which is either playing a heavy game at constant 99% or running something like Furmark or Afterburner's Kombustor.

    Room temperature, people. Room temperature.

You won't get the same reading at the South Pole and Sahara.

Well, if it is a room, then it is always room temperature. Doesn't really matter since no one has voted in the poll. ???
