Can people who installed the unlocked 780m vbios talk about whether they saw any improvements?

I am wondering if I should install it. I don't have any problems with my current stock vbios but I was wondering if there any further advantages to installing the unlocked vbios. I don't really plan on overclocking my GPU as all games right now work fine.

But are there other advantages other then for overclocking?

Yeah, I wasn't plan on changing the clocks as I don't know whether that will decrease the life of the GPU or not. Since this is a relatively new vbios and no one has had it long enough to what the long term effects might be. I haven't really had any games that throttle that hard yet so maybe might be useful in the future.

Yeah if you haven't experienced any throttling and don't need any extra performance than just leave the stock vBIOS as it is. I toyed with the idea of flashing the modded vBIOS but in the end decided not to since I have yet to see any throttling and don't really need the extra performance.

i think it lowers the idle clock so it might idle at lower temps and less fan noise

I use nvidia inspector to control my idle clocks.

That could actually be useful for longevity of the card. My fan does speed up pretty quickly when I run even basic programs.

But I was looking for maybe people who had seen FPS increases with the new bios which I guess is not really happening.

If memory serves the unlocked vBIOS raises the core boost clock to about 900 MHz, compared to 850 MHz with stock. So you're looking at about 5 FPS at best if you use stock settings with the unlocked vBIOS.

Best case is the 5% combines with a lack of throttle to give a 15-20% boost over a stock vbios card.

Ok I really want to benchmark some games and 3dmark with the stock vbios vs new vbios. Hopefully I get time after work to do it(really lazy after work).

Anyone know any other good benchmark tools that would be affected by this new vbios. I plan to do Dolphin(Gamecube/Wii Emulator) and PCSX2(Playstation 2 Emulator) benchmarks as well.

You can try Unigine: Heaven (Unigine has several benching applications). It's fairly intensive and has a benching feature.

Ok I'll try these benchmarks. I think the hard part is going to be that the benchmarks might be off because after the first few benchmarks are run, the whole laptop system temperature has gone up(CPU,GPU,fan full speed), thereby making the latter benchmarks different due to high temps.

We're not supposed to share the modded vBIOS here. You have to either make 5 meaningful posts, or pay a small fee to become and elite member at TI before you get download priveleges.

I noticed an increase of speed and stability when using SVL7's mod on my 780m. So yeah there are no downsides really, it just gives you stability (I never liked GPU Boost) and the option to overclock higher, and even a little boost in stock clocks. Also setting the power and temp target in NV inspector to 120% has made my card much more consistent clocks.

Just use NV Inspector to backup your stock Vbios.

Pretty much it's a nice tune up even without changing the clocks, this would go doubly for the 880m but they are trying to prove a point at the moment (I understand why).

Yes definitely! I have never looked back after flashing, Plus who could argue with more features even if you don't use them immediately.

I'm not very up to date here but why are they holding back? Extra testing? or are some people being ungrateful?

I understand how that feels, I once had a business associate steal some of my ideas and made money of them.

It's not fair that people are doing this, especially since the work the guys put in and making it free at the same time.
Do you know if they are selling the Vbios or anything?

It will be released, much in the same manner as the 780M etc ones currently already are (if I remember right) once they've let enough time pass to prove that others aren't doing the same quality of work that they are.
