I've been doing some price comparing of various North American Clevo resellers recently as I get closer to saving enough to get an NP9370, as well as keeping a close eye on the availability of the 7970m. Tonight I've found that that option has disappeared completely from every NA Clevo reseller I've looked at - whereas before the option was there, with a date of availability. This is somewhat worrisome because I like the price/performance of dual 7970m's, as opposed to dual 680m's which, to my knowledge, only differ in their efficiency of power consumption and battery life.
TLDR: Is the disappearance of the 7970m option from NA Clevo reseller sites permanent or (if not) does anyone have any info their future availability?
-
-
what part of the world are you from and which suppliers have you looked at as its still available in the uk
-
NA Resellers. Xotic pc, LPC-Digital, Power Notebooks, Malibal and Sager Notebook all seem to have dropped the option.
-
Australian reseller Metabox still offers 7970M in their Clevos.
-
Yes, it seems as though NA resellers aren't offering it anymore though, and that's the region I'm looking at.
-
most prob getting ready for the new cards.
-
That's what I'm thinking. Hopefully the changeover will be soon, as I would like to see AMD option.
-
Hey All,
Clevo discontinued the production of them, so basically if we can't order more of them when they run out they are gone. So basically if any other company still has stock then yea they'll still be selling them. -

It should not be too long until they flip over
-
Sweet thanks for the info. The waiting game begins
-
Oh great this makes me feel real good

There has been no secret as to when the new models would be launching. -

Do you mean ATI is going to come out with a nex gen card???
-
nope, theve accepted defeat and now agree that nvidia make the best cards
-

Well, that sucks. It's a pity to see such a good product destoyed by a bad technology.

He is being sarcastic, the 8970M is being brought in instead.
-
me, sarcastic, never
ok yeh i was.
-
The 8970M is a rebrand of the 7970M. That is good news for us in terms of driver support.
-
I wonder if there will be a possibility of flashing the 8970M VBIOS to a 7970M...
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It's pretty likely by the looks of things.
-
And when would that be?
-
Whoa, time does fly by... it's already been a year since the P150EM and 7970M have been released...
Hopefully with the 8970M they'll do something that might fix the enduro performance issues, unless they've already been fixed since I've been away too long -
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
Yes every year it seems that the AMD (ATI) cards get discontinued first. The NVIDIA card(s) will stay on until the model itself is discontinued..... -
if the hardware is completely the same, no point to flash 7970m to 8970m if your card cant oc to 950 or highter. only those with gold card which can oc to 1050 without ov worth to do it.
-
New VBIOS may fix some of the issues related to Enduro. Overclocking is not everything that matters...
-
plus ull potentially get longer/better driver support for ur "8970m"

The only US builder I see still selling them is OriginPC as of right now
-

If you can hold off any longer you are skirting haswell.

For sale, 8970m......... I think this confirms it......
New AMD HD 8970M GDDR5 for clevo upgrademonkey pre order. | eBay
No sign of a GTX 780m pre-order.... so I guess Nvidia's either keeping much quieter about it, or this vendor knows something.....
I see the leaked 780m benchmark puts it about 30% faster than the 680m (presumably its a tweaked 680mx), and onpar with the desktop GTX 680......... I hope this unexpected 8970m released isn't another rush job just so AMD can say "we had the fastest card in 2013 for about 4 weeks" -
As Meaker said, keep holding on another 4-6 weeks tops... I was going to buy a P150EM with 7970m - looks like it will be a P150SM with 8970m and 4700mq now .... using the extra time to gather another few hundered coins, as they will no doubt be more expensive, AND if I can't make the jump, I hope to sweep up a "clearance" P150EM...... bit of a gamble but it could be a win win scenario
-
Sounds like a good idea actually. A clearance NP9370 Sounds sweet, but having the best of best (for about 4 weeks) sounds good too.
-
Lol yeah, be careful calling AMD the best of the best, some folk have some big issues with AMD (and rightly so....) not to mention the die hard NV fans.
I'm looking forward to seeing how the 8970m performs in a variety of titles, I'll also be looking forward to the 780m although I won't be able to afford one, and I doubt it will be as quick as the desktop 680 but at least Nvidia are actually bringing something new to the line up (or at least not restricting it mac anyway)
Worth remembering, the actual "new" graphics architectures won't be out till 2014 though, these are just renamed and tweak previous gen cards....... -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Well it's not really new per say, it's the same chip just perhaps with more shaders.
-
Prostar Computer Company Representative
Pretty much. A quick comparison on leaked specs for the 780M shows it's awfully similar. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
The difference would come with a more advanced boost mechanism.
