I've been busy with my old Asus U2E since I found a new mainboard for it on ebay. But I will re-flash my card back to tberts vBios and install Windows 8 fresh. I'll let you know the results!

Just a wild card but which card did people previously have and has anyone tried reverse engineering 6990M HDMI driver to be used with 7970M?

(as in tbert had 6990M previously which had a separate HDMI driver provided by sager/clevo or so I recall reading somewhere while people with nvidia cards probably didn't cuz it worked out of the box)

and yes, I'd be awfully happy to have HDMI working when I get my 7970M :)

Ok, no go... Flashed vbios back to tberts, no problem there. Then I installed Windows 8 fresh, installed all the updates and the the 13.1 WHQL driver. Sorry guys...

Not much, likely many don't seem to care that much - me included but I have to say there are those random moments where I'd like to be able to use hdmi output for displaying movies on tv etc.

Same, since dvi works it isn't crippling, but HDMI would definitely be nice

The Dell version of the 7970m does not work on the Clevo p170hm correct? I see a ton of this version for sale on here and ebay but rarely a Clevo version which is what I'd like to have.

Yeah the EC has a slightly different way of reading the temperatures it seems which causes the machine to panic and shut down with another brand :/

    hi,
I'm very interestd in that vbios from tberts...maybe I have a HOPE for you all, I explain: I have a p170hm and used to have a hd 6970m without hdmi working, same problem, but DVI worked, but I wanted audio support through DVI/hdmi adapter and found one original ATI with audio signals and uncompressed 5.1 to receiver!!!
Finally, I decided later to upgrade to 7970m, now I've lost audio even through DVI/hdmi adapter, so I was wondering If I could get the audio working with the BIOS from tbert03? What do u think about that, will it work? Can u get me the bios for a try?

    Thanks

hey buddy, the vbios tbert was talking about is basically the same that svl7 used over at the techinferno forums in order to create his vbios patches. u should head over there and download the vbios package, it includes the stock dell vbios tbert was talking about :)

so ure getting an image with the 7970m installed now?

just saw over at the W860CU tuning thread that a used tried different amd driver versions and with the more recent ones he actually got both image and sound to work :) so maybe that would be worth a try in ur case as well. as for me, i havent touched my hdmi port even once ever since i upgraded to the 7970m :D maybe i should do that sometime...

    Guys,
Only the Dell version 7970m has HDMI audio output functioning and unfortunately this card is not compatible with the clevo's and then again the fans on this card also need to be fine tuned in hwinfo to get them to work with the AW notebook.
OTOH, the clevo 7970m have functioning fans(auto) but hardware wise the HDMI audio output is not happening. No bios tweak will fix this issue as the hardware has the difference. If only dell and clevo could combine the two cards and make a combo 7970m which has the ec fan controller of the clevo and the hdmi(audio output) of the dell then and only then would we the community be very happy. :)

well maybe it would be worth a try to flash the dell vbios onto a clevo card and see if that changes anything HDMI wise? the dell vbios actually works on clevo cards, im running on it right now :) just dont have an HDMI cable at hand :p

Well do try it with the cable and see how it all goes. It would be great to have final confirmation on this cause if you are successful then users can have full hdmi functionality.(which was only offered on the dell 7970m card)

    Best of luck jaybee83 :)

well, to be clear on my last statement: i dont have an HDMI cable at all :p so i cannot check it out, unfortunately ;)

btw, what do u mean with fan functionality? fan tables work just fine with both the dell and the clevo vbios :) shouldnt change by flashing the vbios anyways, since the fans are controlled by the EC.

I should have mentioned dell card instead of dell vbios and clevo card instead of clevo vbios. Now fixed :)
My thoughts are with reference to using a clevo 7970m in an alienware ATM hehehe as this is what will happen in the next 24hrs for me. I also will feed a 680m into my clevo p170HM so stay tuned.
Interestingly, but off-topic, the clevo 7970m works in the alienware m17xr2 but does not have audio hdmi output working. Only dell 7970m cards have the full hdmi working but inadvertently users have to use hwinfo to control fans as they don't function correctly with motherboard bios.

With the clevo card and clevo HM series owners face similar issue as hdmi audio output does not work but fans are working properly. Using the dell vbios in the clevo card may allow functionality of the hdmi but am not 100% confident as it seems more a hardware thing than software.
Reciprocated, the dell 7970m does work in the clevo but with limited functionality and usually overheating occurs meaning incompatibility.

I can confirm that the dell vbios on the Clevo 7970 allows for HDMI output. whereas the BR042847.008 will not allow for HDMI output

I've tested both and can confirm this,

    Hope this helps

Just got back my P150HM from RMA. Got the card upgraded to 7970M after my 6990M went kaput. The HDMI surprisingly is working on my laptop!

Any idea of what I'm doing wrong cuz if I flash dell vbios on my 7970M I lose dvi output as well. (and obviously didn't get hdmi working either)
