PC Specialist in the UK are offering to upgrade the Vortex II ie the 150HM with the 7970M and the works that includes labour, BIOS, delivery for £240 as they have now got it to fully work. They are currently testing the 170HM (my model) and hope to be able to offer the upgrade soon. For UK prices that is a cheap as chips.

Wow, good find.
-
+1
Great find!!!!!!cant wait to see some european HM machines being strong
-
Hopefully mine shortly
although I can wait I am still very pleased with my 6990M. I sent them a message to confirm that I get my 6990M back I believe I do because they confirmed the £240 price is for the new card as well. Bargain upgrade.
Been very impressed with PC specialist service got my Clevo and the mrs from them and also a replacement keyboard from their user friendly site and they are very good with their customer service. Will be considering their inferno soon which is the 11 inch Clevo model and fully kitted out I7 Quad 8GB HyperX + SSD with the 650M GT comes to under £700. -
this means we can order 7970m with the modded from them for £240??
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yeah, they will even fit it for you it seems.
-
I wonder if they will do me a deal as im having heat issues with my 6990m reaching 103 degrees.
-
This is great news for us Uk people. I am not interested in getting them to fit it for me though, so hopefully I can just order the GPU and heatsink on its own.

they just answer me and they said if i didnt bought the machine from them they will not upgraded it......so sad..
-
now i will have to wait..
-
Did anyone ask if they would supply the card for you to upgrade yourself? With modded vbios obviously.
-
-
I guess everyone has their own definitions of 'good business sense' -
So, i guess they don't need... let's say 100 cards x 400 euros/card = 40.000 euros! Nice... We will found someone who appreciates money.
-
Oh dear guys sorry they didn't say that to me but I did buy from them
It is £240 for the whole deal. Must be something in their T's and C's. If I get one though can I not share the Vbios? -
that would be very awesome indeed

Once they confirm they are sticking them in the 170HM I will pick one up for sure so will then post the Vbios then. Got the money now shame they won't do it will send em another message tonight.
-
Well that's a little annoying it's only for their customers. It's certainly an awesome deal at that price. If they have the modded vbios, then other resellers can't be far behind. Just hold on guys.
-
Ok I am waiting for a response to see if I can send my HM in to have the work done will keep you all posted. I asked if I get my 6990M back as well I assume because of the low price they made take that as well as trade price.
-
no news on the 17inch vortex II though.....
-
Have a look at the Sager sticky if you have a p170hm to see if your laptop is compatible. Not all are.
-
Email has been passed to a manager to have a look at and see if they are able to attempt this on my model.
-
Afternoon all,
Finally got the information I have been waiting for to plonk a 7970M in my 170HM.
Dear Chris
They finally arrived last Thursday.
They are now available for purchase, they are either £312.00 for just the card if you wish to do it yourself, or £347.00 for us to do it (price inc. GPU, collection, redelivery and labour).
If we can assist you any further, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Many Thanks
....
I have replied with a few questions regarding the heatsink and the Vbios and waiting for a response. If they do not supply the heatsink as I assume the thermal pad areas would be different to my 6990M I may just send it in and have it done. Will update once I get a reply. -
For whatever reason they don't want offer same service with GTX680m, but willing to ship the chip, once they have plenty of free stock. A bit sad, was thinking of Christmas present for myself.
-
For you I think the upgrade would be huge for me I am still considering it, I want an Alienware X51 once they refresh and my 6990M still max's out everything I throw at it so cannot justify it atm.
-
The fully functional HD7970M might give you the same impression.
-
The 675M is such a lame excuse of a refresh because the 580M should have been left the 580M and not rebranded. Things go out of date so quickly I think it is more that the 7970M and 680M are SO powerful that the 6990M and 580M are overshadowed, we were all so use to high end mobile cards being near enough Ultra 1080p with no AA then Kepler and Pitcairn came along and made mid range desktop cards a waste of money. PCS were offering the deal for £240 but now £340
seems a little too much.
-
Hi Yiddo - i see in your email that they said they had 7970m for the HM series - did you ever get one ?
There has been some confusion, as when i tried to ring they said they didnt have any or know when they would get one in :S
Pj -
347£ is actually pretty much the norm for resellers in EU. Considering that it includes them installing it and PCS warranty I'd say it's a rather good offer still (obviously not as good as what they first quoted but whatever).
-
as far as ive read on here its only for customers that have bought their laptops from them.
-
Sorry i should have added i did buy my laptop from them
Just didnt know if anyone actually HAD it done yet -
trrying to find out as it would be the easiest option to install the 7970m
PJ -
7970M in a 150HM is good as long as you don't care about HDMI not working.
-
...which could only be a temporary issue since newest info indicates a driver-related problem, thus in theory a simple software fix should do the trick
