    Cheers guys,

I've been trying to get my Qumi 3D DLP projector working with my 7970m and Windows 8.

    My configuration is as follows:

-1 pair of DLP glasses (working, I have already tested them)
-1 Qumi 3D DLP Projector (set to 1024x768@120hz via HDMI)
    -1 P150EM with AMD's 7970m and Windows 8

    I tried with both:
    - Latest iz3d
    - DDD's TripleDef (expired the other day, so can't try it again :X. When I had it, the glasses hadn't arrived yet, so not sure if it was really working... )

I am thinking it might be an issue with windows 8. I am able to set my external display to work at 120hz (only tried through HDMI, but heard that for HD quality one must use VGA), and I am able to sync my glasses with the projector. However, when installing and running iz3d, it doesn't matter what settings I try, nothing changes. Even in anaglyph mode, it stays the same in any game or in the internal "Dynamic" scene. Aditionally, the "overlay" that is supposed to appear in games when pressing "Num *" doesn't work.

I know I shouldn't be asking too much around here about these things, but iz3d is pretty much dead and I can't test TripleDef -_-' . If someone assured me that TripleDef does work in a similar set up, I'd might go out on a limb and shell out a few euros their way...

    Thank you for your time!

I don't think HDMI supports 120HZ rates, (or maybe that's strictly for 3D). Have you tried another connection type, such as DP?

It's been stated many times before. You cannot output 3D if you have switchable graphics, whether it's AMD or Nvidia doesn't matter.

I tried VGA as well. It works with 1280 x 720@ 120 Hz. If I try, for an instance HDMI at that resolution and refresh rate it will simply say "Source out of range".

Here's the thing, I don't get WHY it doesn't work. The HD4000 is capable of outputting @120Hz. Ergo, it should be possible for the dedicated GPU to send alternated images to the integrated graphics. And since I'm using a middle-ware software that basically injects DX9/11 instructions, it should pretty much work. HELL, it should at least crash or something, not just be the same thing (or is the HD4000 also incapable of 3D anaglyphs? I find this very curious!). For what I've read at the abandoned iz3D forum, the red-cyan should work on pretty much any video-card. Additionally, since iz3D was discontinued, support for windows 8 is somewhat... lacking...

So this is pretty much where I am at. Is there a gentle soul with the same problem but WITH Windows 7 ?

If the game supports side by side 3D (like Crisis 2) then you can play in half 1080p (960x1080) 3D @60hz for both eyes via HDMI, I've done it with a samsung 3D TV.

@Jaycob, I haven't tried any 3rd party 3D conversion software for games, but i'm sure that someone has to support side by side 3D. Yet your 3D projector has to support side by side 3D.

If you're wondering, this picture explains what is side by side 3D:

PC Image output => image conversion => TV 3D Image

Thanks for the answer RogerCD. However, my Projector works strictly with 3D Dlp (meaning 120hz). SBS would work on my mobile phone only xD. But the fact that you CAN, using your P150EM, use SBS 3D shows that you can in fact have 3D using the HD4000 (which means my issue is pretty much middleware).

I bugged the TriDef fellas and they were cool enough to give me a 14 day trial. When I get back to my Qumi I'll be sure to try it and post some stuff here. The iz3d has a lot of issues for people in Windows 8. TriDef, however, is supposed to work in Windows 8.

Hopefully, I'll be able to see if the issue is HD4000 or middleware stuff. If it's inconclusive, I might try setting up a DirectX app to test this (like showing a 3D image).

Thanks guys, will update this soon!

I think a lot of things have a lot of issues with Windows 8 (or perhaps the reverse would be more correct), but if the software states it is compatible with Windows 8, then that means it should have been tested and verified as working under the OS.

    Looking forward to the update!

Just tested this stuff out and I can confirm a few things:

    - TriDef does work well in Windows 8 (However, OpenGL Stereo mode crashes any application with a 3D graphical context)

    - TriDef doesn't support 3D DLP Projectors (The irony of which is not lost on me). They do support 3D DLP Tvs and a lot other things that DO work (I could see and play games in 3D unsupported modes, be it interpolated or SBS, etc)

HOWEVER, I tried a little thing called Stereoscopic Player that DOES work ^^:

    - Software Page Fliping is the mode for me. Again, this mode is available in iz3D but NOT in TriDef :(. And of course, iz3D doesn't do anything for me in W8

    - I actually got to see a 3D video with page fliping on, on my qumi 3d, with my glasses, with the P150EM. Colors were a bit off, but that's what you get for buying a cheap knock-off pair of excuse for 3D DLP Glasses.

So, let's round up what we know:

    - The Dedicated GPUs are capable of outputting 3D images to the integrated intel GPU

    - The dedicated software and drivers (AMD Stereo Driver and probably Nvidia 3D Vision) don't work because the detected device is deemed as "unsupported" (our dear HD4000)

    - Middleware software with their own implementations do work (I was also able to do 3D Red/Cyan Analgyphs with both Stereoscopic Player and TriDef) as they don't give a rat's about detected devices (Still, you have to at least have the needed hardware connected for those modes to work: i.e. I could activate SBS video and gaming, but since I can't enable it on my projector, it works as two side by side frames of the game or video)

I wonder If there are more people around here with the same or similar experiences. This makes me feel a bit angry with AMD for not having decent 3D support and relying on others to do so. And I'm reeeaaaally starting to consider running W7 just to see if iz3D does work as intended there!

    Cheers guys!
