    Hi there,

Just for those at work keen to see how the early preview of the 12.11 is doing -

    Benched easily the highest score with crossfire on my p370em;

7970m CF - 10641 marks- but more impressive is the graphics score at nearly 13k

    AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3610QM Processor,CLEVO P370EM score: P10641 3DMarks

Will obviously clean off and install bug free drivers when they are released

    pj

P.s vantage seems to have gone up by about 1500 -2000 on early testing , watch this space

Out of interest- those scores put it half way between a stock 680 GTX and a Stock 690 GTX - crazy power from a laptop

So 7970m is now a faster card than the $300 more expensive 680m? Makes me kinda sad.

Well seeing as I just ordered a laptop with a 680m it's hard to be happy for something like that. I basically just wasted $300 for a slower card. Great...

I can imagine those that bought a 680m must be fuming that AMD is moving ahead with even higher 3D mark scores...

AMD owners/users. and tech blogs have been saying all year long that drivers haven't been optimized for the GCN core and users have shown there to be issues and AMD said they were working on it.

So this is not a surprise to anyone that these drivers have arrived. The same won't happen for Kepler since Kepler is still essentially a FERMI that has had drivers optimized for it for the past 4 years.

GCN is almost a complete departure from what AMD has been using, so everyone who bought GCN should have known the software/driver was going to take a while to adjust to the hardware changes.

AMD isn't finished either. When every last optimization is made, the HD 7000 series will truly shine.

Was so close to switching to a 680M. I'm so glad I decided to wait for the fix :)

Good call -sometimes waiting is better, unless you purchased a the 680M month ago then yeah

It's not necessarily a slower card at this point. It still runs cooler and has insane overclocking potential, so you should be happy about the purchase. The 680m is an awesome card, and if they were both the same price, I would have a very difficult time choosing between them at this point. If it were yesterday, I'd say 680m without a doubt, but I'm beginning to see that the 7970 has a whole lot more potential than has ever been fully realized before. It's an excellent time to own either card :D

The 7970M is an awesome card since the start I think (at least for those who didn't have Enduro, such as me :D) and those drivers somehow make it look even better!

However, besides benchmarks scores improvement, I still do think it's behind the GTX680m overall by a fair margin, even though benchmark scores tend to say it gets closer to the latter.
Why ? Simply because of the architecture both manufacturer went for: the 7970m being based on a 7870 desktop downclocked and the 680m on a 670 desktop downclocked too.

A full and very complete review has been done by Techpowerup about the performances of the last desktop gpus with the latest drivers ! And as you can see, the 670 is way ahead off the 7870 in most of the games.
Some results look a bit biased to me as to have owned both cards (680m and 7970m WITHOUT enduro), the difference wasn't that noticeable but i don't think their figures are wrong anyway.

I agree with you,but the desktop 670 and 680m are different except from the shaders.
The memory is a lot slower than the 670.....
only if you ov+oc the 680m is a head up of the 7970m for couple points
stock to stock now the 7970m is faster(litle)but faster... :D
both companies made good cards :D.

I totally agree with you dude! I'm going back to a 7970m because the 680m is overkill for what I am doing (and more expensive too)

You're right, the 680m has only 1800mhz effective of GDDR5 while the 670 got 3000mhz - this huge gap can be much reduced though as most of the 680m can get their mem clocks up to 2300mhz and for the luckiest one, it can be overclocked to over 2500/2600mhz.

The new ATI drivers look awesome, I've had a quick look and it seems like the under-utilization trouble isn't solved yet but that shouldn't take long now!

By the way, those new benchmark scores look awesome kol!

So wait, which one would be better for OC? 7970M or the 680M ?

The 680m is still a great card. Plus, the Enduro issue hasn't been completely fixed yet.
