So if I get this card what will I have to do to get it to work? I have the Hannstar LCD screen. To those who made this upgrade would you recommend it and what problems have you run into?

dont think upgrading video cards have anything to do with what screen you have. if you get the card (have to be clevo version, dell wont work), it should just be plug and play. though the display port(or was it HDMI) wont work no matter what you do

well in the case of the p170hm the screen model actually does matter, since its indicative of the mobo revision. as stated by sager, not all mobo revisions of that machine are compatible with the 7970m. in ur case tho its not a problem, since the hannstar lcd model works fine with the ati gpu :)
aside from that, the 7970m needs a modded vbios in order to properly function on hm series laptops. either check and see if u can get ur hands on a preflashed gpu or just buy a regular one and follow the guide in my sig in order to blindflash the modded vbios. with the regular vbios the screen stays blank, as the gpu waits for a handshake with the IGP,which in the case of HM series laptops is disabled.
all in all, i can definitely recommend the 7970m on hm machines since ure not affected by any enduro problems and u get an amazing back per buck ratio :)
as mentioned above, the only real downside with this upgrade is that the hdmi functionality is not given, altho u can always just switch to the dvi port.

Nice sounds good! I was scared enough flashing my 6990m, but a blind flash! Looks pretty straight forward though. So was the vBios released by sager then?

Don't do that. Just get it from RJTech direct. There you will at least get some warranty and guarantee. It will come with the vBIOS already flashed and the heatsink kit you need. Seriously, don't waste your time with blind flashing and all that. You are spending some serious money, why risk when you can have assurance it's done right?

    - Pull down menu option, 170HM with Hannstar right there. 90 Day Warranty.

    Be smart.

yeah well, all well and true what hulawafu said, buti just so happened to order my 7970m at rjtech as well. specifically told them it was for my p150hm laptop, but when the gpu arrived it still had the stock vbios. couldnt bother sending it all the way back from germany to the us, so i just blind flashed the modded vbios myself ;)
and yes, that modded vbios was originally released by sager.
