I just installed a 7970m in my clevo, I know the HDMI slot doesn't work which doesn't bother me much BUT my dual link dvi port won't go past 1920x1080 resolution on my u2711 (2560x1440 res monitor).

I've tried reformatting the laptop after installation and put on 12.8 drivers(also tried 12.9) but no luck :( Is this another driver issue?

p.s the monitor works fine when I plug the monitor into my desktop PC with the same cable so its not a monitor/cable issue

edited: Using a P150HM used to have a GTX485 which worked fine outputting 2560x1440 via dual link

Is this in the HM as the EM has a displayport not a Dual Link DVI. I tried and tested this on my 6990M and contacted PC specialist who confirmed that Clevo they never connected this up to dual link and it will only run at single link. HDMI is also limited to 1080p so your only option is VGA which sadly this model does not have.

If you have upgraded to the 7970M in your HM the DVI may not work at all :(

The DVI-I port can transmit analog signal, so he can try a DVI-A to VGA adapter.

I think he is doing that already to get 1080p on the DVI so it sounds as though it is only running at single link. Could use a Dual Link adaptor but they do not come cheap and require a USB port to power it.

If you have an EM, the DisplayPort may be capable of outputting to that resolution (not 100% on this), one option is to pick up an active DisplayPort to dual link dvi adapter (quite exxy) but it may work.

I suggest you try find a test unit and try it out prior to making the purchase, they can range from $50-$100+ here in Australia

This is what it looks like: -

Displayport is capable of running this resolution, no reason it shouldn't be on our laptops. Previous poster linked to the correct adapter, it HAS to be active for that resolution.

oops, I forgot to my laptop is a P150HM it used to have a GTX485M in it and I could output 2560x1440 via the dual link dvi without any issues.

But I recently got it upgraded to a 7970m when I sent it back for repairs but now it'll only go up to 1920x1080 res at max

Sounds like it is only outputing to single link with the 7970M as above if you can afford the hefty cost for an adaptor it should sort the issue just make sure it comes with a return policy before forking out for it.

Nope :( it is a pain and the reason why I sold my HM because I wanted 120hz and it could not do it if I upgraded to the 7970M :( it is a pain but 1080p is still very good, just max out your settings ;)
