    7970m or 8970m for p170em

    my old 7970m died and im considering either another 7970m or 8970m , the thing is 8970m isnt that much compatible with p170em and i read somewhere if it did actually work on my p170em i wont be able to oc it while on the other hand i could with the 7970m , so my questions is which is a better performance upgrade , a 8970m that cant be oced or a 7970m that can be?

    7970m all the way :) as meaker said, theyre identical cards in all respects except for the 50mhz boost feature on the gpu clock, but thats easily attainable with any 7970m out there ;)

    Less faffing around with auto boosting makes life easier finding a stable overclock. There is a lot of variation in what chips will do with these cards though which eclipses any 7970m vs 8970m differences.
