Hi. I bought 3 SSDs (one is going where the optical drive is) to install in my NYX3712. It current has 2 750gb hdds that I believe are 9.5mm think wile the SSDs are 7mm think. What do I need to know or do before trying to install them?

    Thanks.

What brand is it? Samsung sent me a 3mm spacer for free, but you could also have one made or just fold up a piece of paper until it fits snug. It'll be fine. Just make sure there isn't a bunch of room for the drive to wiggle around and damage the sata connector.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the replies.

The SSD's are Plextor M5Pro eXtreme. I just got done replacing the Optical Drive with one one of the SSD's in a caddy. Now I'm going to do the two internal hard drives later this afternoon. From what i gather, i only need a 2mm shim between the hard drives sandwiched together... I'll try the cardboard approach. i have enough of that lying around!

You don't have to worry about heat or vibration so any non conductive filler should be fine.

I just got done installing the SSDs. I found a sheet of rubber that is 2mm thick and cut 2 square pieces out of it and placed them under each SSD. Worked great.

Only moving parts now are the fans..

Rubber is a wise choice; next to no current will flow through it, so your SSDs are not only now snug, but safe. :) How are the Plextor drives working for you so far?
