I just got my 8130 and notice rattling when I type. The rattle seems to be coming from the optical drive. The rattle disappears if I apply pressure to that area (such as resting my palm above it), but as I type with my index fingers, I'm usually not doing so. It's loud enough to be audible when the TV is on, and even louder when I tap the palm rest right over the optical drive. I tried tightening all the screws, but the rattle persists. Note that it doesn't rattle while reading a CD/DVD.
Is this normal for this model?

Have you tried "dissecting" the drive itself? e.g. open up the optical drive...maybe something is in contact with the drive bay.

I'm going to send it in. I noticed a problem with the speakers as well.
I talked to XoticPC and they said they hadn't ever heard of either of my problems despite selling a bunch of 8130s, and come to think of it, I haven't seen either problem mentioned in any reviews, so I must have gotten a lemon. -
Does anyone know a resolution to this?

I'm typing on a P151HM1 / 8130 right now and it doesn't rattle like that. Depending on how hard you strike the keys on the keyboard, they might make a typical clicking type sound, but there isn't any rattling at all - no matter how hard you type.

Lol really malibal? With all of the PCs you ship out, with all of those crazy configurations, you use a lowly 8130?

There's nothing lowly about the P151HM1 / 8130, my friend. They're perfect for work. Now, if I'm doing some gaming - I might pull out a Nine X7200, but not for basic tasks.

On topic though, if you notice the rattle from the keyboard itself, there was another post on here where a user DIY'd it a bit and added two small bits of foam adhesive under the keyboard that sorted it out.
I don't notice any rattle on the P150HM I use though, despite being the same keyboard. -

I think that was a different model though...probably an Asus.

It seems like that optical drive is loose or it could be from all the extra space in the chassis for cooling. IDK.

Mine does not rattle with or without the ODD drive. Where does the rattle come from?
