Sorry in advance for my noobness, but I got my laptop in less then a week ago and faced my first issue yesterday. I was playing skyrim at work for about 5 hours and everything was fine (temperature was at 50 celcius right after i closed the game and it was idling at 35 celcius).
i close the game and started watching a video and about an hour into watching the movie the screen started to flicker and flashing on and off. i got the BSOD after that and i restarted my laptop but the same thing happened right after that. i turned my laptop off went home and after i woke up i noticed it worked fine. i read other peoples problems which were pretty much exactly like mine.
i followed the instructions and downloaded the latest 560m driver which was the 290. everything worked until today when the exact same thing happened while i was simply brwding the internet. i uninstalled the 290 beta version and replaced it with the 285 version but its still not working.
what could be wrong with it? please help
im running in safe mode right now and i screen capped the flickering here

not seen a screen like that before
first thing is download Who Crashed (in my sig below) and run it and post the results on here.
what was you using to check your temperatures? was it HW Monitor which you can also get below.
could you also post up you spec of your computer so it gives us an idea of what your running. -
I think Ive read of several similar acounts. It might have to do with the BIOS. But Im not completely sure.
-
i didnt use hwmonitor (ill get it now though) but i was using a gpu gadget that had a temperature read out that showed perrect temperature both times.
i ran the whocrashed program and it gave me the minidump files.
how do i upload them?
thank you guys
forgot to mention, i reinstalled the beta 290 version for the video card and have played batman for almost an hour with no issues. im still worried it ll continue to randomly crash though
edit: not sure how to upload the minidumps so i screen capped it really quick to see http://i.imgur.com/ha4WY.png -

you will need to download Who Crashed. run it and then just copy and paste the results here. this gives a much better dump report than the windows ones you linked too.

The crash took place in a standard Microsoft module. Your system configuration may be incorrect. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver on your system which cannot be identified at this time. -

It looks like you might have a driver conflict with the Nvidia drivers and Windows (or some other software), or you have a failing graphics card (unlikely but possible). If possible, I'd recommend doing a fresh Windows install with the latest Nvidia drivers to eliminate the possibility of driver conflicts first.
-
how would i be able to tell if the card is failing? -
what graphics card have you got loaded.
i would actually try a safe mode driver clean and install before you tried the operating system install. also if youve got time i would reinstall the driver that was on your computer when you first got it just to see if that behaves.
if you need a walkthrough just holler.
below is what a dead graphics card looks like but im not sure how the latest cards react to death. is it instant or a slow process. -
i tried to do a clean install with the nvidia driver after the first crash and it didnt work. I just finished reinstalling windows so hopefully there wont be any conflicts between the nvidia and windows drivers. I skipped the vga drive from the disc and installed the 290.53 driver off of nvidias site so hopefully it will solve the issue
luckily my screen didnt look like that when it was crashing, it was mostly random stutters and turning the display on and off before it went to BSOD -
if your having crashing on a new machine its always best to go back to the original one on the disc and then try only the whql releases for a while.
also when you done a clean install did you do it in safe mode with driver cleaner? -
so should i delete the 290 and install the version off of the utilities? -
now youve loaded them see how they do. you might be lucky and they are fine. its pure trial and error when it comes to drivers as what works for one crashes for someone else with exactly the same machine.
