So when I put my laptop in sleep mode either by selecting it in the start menu or by closing the lid, it will go to sleep for about 5-10 seconds, then the second I pick my laptop up to put it in my bag it comes back out of sleep mode.

As you can tell this causes a big issue when I put my laptop in my bag, because unless I turn the laptop all the way off it will just run until the battery runs down.

Are you bumping the keyboard or touchpad when you put it to sleep? It sounds like you're hitting a button that's waking it up. Also, is it completely asleep before putting it away?

Does it still wake up if you put it into hibernate, or only in sleep?

I can't think of what else would cause it to wake up otherwise.

Sounds like an issue with the Windows' "Power Settings".

Also, if you have a USB Mouse that you haven't turned off, moving that around accidentally can wake up the computer.

A workaround could be to set your power settings so that the laptop goes into sleep mode after 5 idle minutes if on battery. Even if it wakes up when you stick it into your bag, it will go back to sleep before the battery runs down very much.

    *facepalm*

I think this might be it. I never had an issue with my old dell laptop when I would keep the wireless mouse receiver plugged in, but I'll try taking it out and seeing if I still have the same issues with it.

I think I've checked the windows power settings pretty extensively, don't think there's anything amiss there.
