I normally use the Fn+1 to max out my fans when i'm running some games because i live in a hot climate.
But i noticed that while the fans are on Fn+1, every ten seconds the fans slow down (for just a fraction of a second) and then go to max again. This cycle keeps repeating. If you keep your palm near the vents, you can feel the air surge break for a fraction of a second; in fact you can hear it too.
Is this abnormal? Is something wrong with the fans? how can check my fan speed?

Don't worry. This is normal and a side effect from the pulse width modulation nature of the fans.

guys, i understand PWM as i have even implemented a dc motor control system before. The duty cycle will be fixed at 100% when Fn+1 is pressed. These waveforms (in the pic in previous post) will be at speeds much faster than the motor can respond to and definitely much faster than the human senses can detect.
So, I cannot understand how PWM theory explains this artifact. Perhaps i am overlooking something. Could you explain further?
Or Could someone please check if they get this effect too on their 8150? its not a big problem; just a mild curiosity. -

I'm sure we've had many posts about this before and everybody has this same pattern on the turbo'd fans. There is nothing wrong with yours. On mine, at about every 8 seconds, it drops off.

Yep, although I do not use the Fn+1, as I do not see the need for it, I have tested it before.
I experience the exact same effect. The fans are at full blast, but then slow for a few seconds periodically -

I RMAed because it was a nuisance and it ended up being "a bad USB board that would have failed later on" according to sager.
ALso, i didnt know that threads for this had been made earlier.
Thanks to everyone for confirming that they have the thing too. -
Same thing here.
