I was playing a game then I heard a 'tick' then my laptop went dead. Tried to turn it on again to no avail. Tried removing the battery while on a/c but still didn't work. I did notice that the blue light in the psu started blinking when I inserted the power jack and stopped blinking when I took it out. There are no lights also in the front that signify power and charging.

    Any help is welcome.

The 'tick' could have been something blowing (capacitor, etc). You may want to visually check the motherboard for burn marks of signs of a popped capacitor. If you have access to another charger it would help too. Did you have much charge on the battery when the machine quit?

A guy in the 8150 thread described the same problems I had. It was a blown capacitor and power chip so you are probably right. I have two two chargers and both are not working, so I'm guessing my problem is identical to his

The psu is blinking due to the short so yes I agree likely a component failure somewhere.

The sager distributor in my country doesn't do component fixes. If it was indeed a capacitor or power chip, are these parts generic enough for a competent laptop repair service to source them outside of sager?

A truly professional repair could be more expensive than a replacement to be honest. It really depends on the extent of the damage.

With such an old system, it might make more sense to sell it for parts and get a new system... Sounds like a motherboard failure to me..

Seems like a MB power rail failure - possibly a short, I would suggest checking the videocard \ CPU \ RAM etc in another laptop and if they are all alive - keep them or sell separately, while letting the laptop itself stripped of ebay AS-IS :)
You also might check for an easy fix with the local repair service.

You can open up the bottom and give it a smell and see if you notice the tell tale burnt electrical odor.
