hey guys, I bought my 8170 about a month ago but havent had a real chance to sit down and play with it because i moved to a new house. However before moving I play a little bit of starcraft 2 and had a mic plugged in, but when I was finished playing, I could hear white noise coming through the speakers. Its now two weeks later and i still hear white noise when i put my ear up to speaker even if the volume is turned all the way down. Ive tried muting the sound and disabling all audio and recording devices and still nothing. THX pro studio wont allow me to register it due to an error. Any help or ideas would be appreciated! Also if anyone could help me out and try and put their ear up to the speaker and see if the hear a blowing/white noise, itd be a big help. Im trying to convince myself the noise isnt that bad but id rather it be fixed

First thing you should do is reinstall the audio drivers. They will be on the disc that came with the computer.

If that doesn't solve the problem it sounds like it could be a grounding issue, you'd have to talk to your reseller to set up an RMA for that.

Sounds good, please do contact our service department and we'll get the computer checked out. In the mean time you can call our 24/7 phone tech support, they might have some ideas as well.

Just some quick thoughts. Can you try it with the AC adapter plugged in, and also unplugged just on battery to see if it still does it. Also try another outlet in your house.

I don't think it is a hardware issue.

The 8170 have integrated mic. Make sure you only have the external mic turned on instead of both.

It's possible you're just getting internal/external interference then (that the speakers are picking up), which is something your retailer will probably check.

Don't be too shy about digging in if you need to.

In cases such as the one you are describing with the microphone and speakers, those would probably be best left in the hands of your reseller and their technicians.

In cases such as RAM, HDD, CPU repasting, or your wifi adapter, those are actually set up in a way to allow the end user to service those on their own if they need to. :D
