So I stumbled upon this listing in ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/Intel-Core-i7-8...63QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCPUs?hash=item3a5950f73b and was confused if it is really an ES or OEM. I asked a question to the seller, here's my question:

"I don't understand, is this an ES or OEM version?

As far as I know, the ES version is Q3B9 and the SLBLX is the OEM version. But according to your post the SLBLX is the OEM version, so can you confirm this?

    Thanks."

    He replied wit this:

"It's ES Final version, Q3B9, but with OEM apperance.

    Thanks,"

So, is there such thing as an ES CPU now that is masked by an OEM appearance? In that case, this could be a potential problem for buyers since one thing that serves as a unique identity between an ES and OEM CPU would be the sSpec code, in this case SLBLX for the OEM and Q3B9 for the ES.

    Which is which?

    Thanks.

No it is not a genuine OEM. The wholesale/dealer price for a Intel-Core-i7-820QM OEM is much higher than that.

He's basically saying it's a QS version, which is supposed to be the final engineering sample before release. In the past, QS versions were considered to be virtually identical to the OEM version.

Hi I knew that but the physical appearance of ES CPU's have an "ES" indicated in the board itself. My real concern is that why is this masked by an OEM appearance with a sSpec code of SLBLX?

They can do anything on the other side of the pond, but the end result is still the same- caveat emptor, and don't expect to resell here at NBR.
