the top right corner of my 8660 keyboard [near the backspace and delete key] has started to pop out of place. when i push it back down it only stays in place temporarily. is there a way to fix it so it stops popping up in that corner?
also, im definitely going to purchase a notebook cooler. this this is so hot. but besides the heat and the keyboard problem that im having, this notebook is amazing.
i just moved into college and i think i am limited to walmart and office depot for purchasing notebook coolers. any suggestions on what cooler to purchase from these locations? thanks!

Is your college so remote that online venders wouldn't be able to deliver to you?
If not, check out NewEgg.com or something similar for much better offerings in notebook coolers. -
well its in a pretty rural. i just need to pick up a cooler asap so i dont really want to order online at the moment. i would go out and get it today.

awesome, thanks steven. the pic in your thread is exactly like mine. ill get to reading it.
-
where is that guy who is always recommending notebook coolers?? haha
-
Gophn. just get either a zelman 2000 or a cryo. thats what he suggests for this laptop. get it from newegg, they have both.
-
i have a PO box at my college. i dont think newegg ships to PO boxes.
-
amazon do i think and they have the coolers too the last time I checked.
you could also get the stuff sent to your parents and have them forward it to the PO box -
alright thanks helios ill give amazon a try.
i just bought a temporary targus cooler and it sucks. absolutely no difference in temperature haha. -
Does the targus suck air down and away from the bottom of the chassis or does it blow cooled air up to the bottom of the chassis? If it's the first, you might actually be reducing the effectiveness of the laptop's cooling system by decreasing the flow rate of air through the internal components.
-
all notebook cooler blow air up.... none pulls air down.
-
the targus cooler blows air up - barely
i just ordered a zalman nc1000 from amazon because i need the smaller size. hope it helps me with the 8660's heat! -
Gophn -- That isn't true.
My current notebook cooler, an Antec (cheap -- got it for 5 dollars after a rebate special, but it works fine for my PowerBook G4) has two centrally located fans that suck heated air down from the bottom of my notebook and then spits it out the sides of the notebook cooler. That would be counterproductive to cooling if the notebook cooling system is set up with an intake fan on the bottom, but my PowerBook G4 has no openings whatsoever on its bottom (and it sucks at dissipating heat, too -- overheats from watching youtube videos!)
Here's a link to this model if you're interested:

Thats very counter productive to suck air down when notebooks are designed to suck air up... that is why Antec coolers are not very well reviewed... as compared to the Zalman, Cooler Master Infinite, or Cryo LX.
-
also, there would not be that much hot air to suck as heated atmosphere rises, so it would be naturally eluding the pull of the cooler.
I think even a blowing cooler would be more benificial even in your case as oxegen cools down as it moves faster, to the bottom of you laptop would be cooled and could help push off heat.
am i right Gophn? your the brains in this department. -
Yeah, it's not a good solution for most notebooks (my Antec), but it does keep my Mac about 10 C cooler on average, so it's okay for that application.
For my NP8660, I have a Zalman NC2000 patiently waiting in a box -
just got my Zalman NC1000 the other day. working great, my 8660 runs noticeably cooler when playing games.
-
^^ notebook coolers (especially good ones) shine during gaming sessions.
-
I'm using that same Antec cooler you guys are bashing, it's doing pretty well on this notebook in my opinion. Underneath of my notebook is very cold.
However, I think what it does is that one fan blows air whilst the other sucks it out. Whatever its doing, its working. -
Which cooler would be better for the NP8660 between the NC2000 and the Cryo LX?
-
oh noes, heating problems for the m860tu.
its abit ironic, after everyone was saying it was going to be flawless and beat the m15x -
Is it not faring better than the m15x? I haven't heard of any cracking M860TU chassis yet, and definitely no downclocking due to overheating. I will withhold judgement for a while yet, but it seems that the heating "problems" people have been experiencing haven't caused any real world problems for their hardware yet.

alienware sucks
-
-
the m860tu with the HDD vista update to 8.5 is bloodly cold.. 40-50 on every thing doing normal stuff.... 80max on gpu gaming in crysis ..
its ALOT nicer than m15x temps .. 20c nicer. -
I find amazing that some "brandlovers" are running around in the forum, shouting to the winds "There's a major heating problem with the M860TU". What's the point really? Does that gives fanboys a rush, an excitment? What's the purpose?
Would AW fanboys be happy if all other laptops would fail? Keep in mind, that wouldn't simply delete all the problems that the M15x came with.
Oh well... Strange is the human species. -
