Does anybody know what the specs are for me to swap out the standard harddrive to a SSD? Like what type of SSD to buy and if it'll drop-in or if I'll need to mod it in some way?

Also, I noticed most places install Vista 64. Anybody dumped Vista 32 on it? Any issues with that? Like maybe some software driver not compatable?

While I do not own a Sager/Clevo, what I can say is that you should try to find a SLC SSD. Not a MLC. SLCs are more expensive, but from what I have read, especially for Vista/XP (i.e., Windows) users, that SLCs do not suffer from the stuttering issue that most MLCs have. I have the Intel X25-M 80GB SSD, which apparently is a MLC. I can tell you from experience, it is not fun using your computer and all of a sudden it appearing to freeze, and then unfreeze after a few minutes. There are ways around it, but it is highly complicated and not worth it.

I believe OCZ makes a SLC one. Also, I think the Intel X25-E is an SLC as well.

Thanks on the thought for the SSD drive type. I was gonna go cheaper with MLC. Never heard of that freezing you're tlaking about. Hmm now I have to think cuz the SLC is almost 50-100% more in price.

I’ve run server class SSDs in RAID0 in a SAGER 9262 as well as desktops and the performance for specialized workloads is excellent. However, the “stuttering” problem is real so you need to be careful about the cheaper SSDs.

Unless, you do rendering, DB, enterprise development or specialized workloads you will not see much of a real performance improvement with SSDs.

I just got some desktop machines with the new model Intel and OCZ devices in RAID0. The new Intel’s running RAID0 SATA are as high performance as last year’s server class SSDs. All of the machines are running XP.

SSDs are rapidly developing products. Unless you have lots of extra $$ or know why you have a specific reason for an SSD, save your money for something else. You can look up some of my other posts for additional info on SSDs and Sagers.
