Okay everyone so I left work early today because the 8662 finally arrived. I got the:

    P8600
    7200 RPM 320 GB HD
    4 GB Ram
    Regular non upgraded screen
    DVD Burner
    Windows 7 RC1

I ran 3dmark 06 and I got a score of 9300. I don't know if thats normal or if it's bad. Also My HD is 57 degrees celcius at full load so i'm not worried about what everyone else is experiencing.

WHat should I set my graphics settings to?? In terms of the nvidia control panel etc...

That's the same configuration I have on the way. I always thought the 8662 with the 260M got around 10k or a little more in 3dmark though, so that might be a little low.

I'm curious as to what drivers are the best though, so I'd like some info about this as well for when mine comes in.

congrats on receiving the new rig. :)

    that score is fine.

to gain a bit more points, you can make sure the Power Option and Nvidia Control Panel is set to Max Performance

also, the drivers for the GTX 260M are still new... so when more updated drivers come out, the performance would probably increase. :)

    Download Nvidia 185.85 drivers here

Download Nvidia System Tools 6.03 and overclock as well!

Your 3dmark06 score won't get very high because of your slower CPU, but that doesn't mean much for gaming. But you can easily get over 10k

And speaking about overclock again, you won't get too far from my experience without overvolting. But you'll need 32 bit to get Nibitor to edit your vbios, or have someone else do it.

Congratulations on your purchase! I'm sure you love it! There isn't much that needs to be done out of the box, this thing is a beast.

That number is low. I have the T9550 (also 2.66ghz) with 4gb ram on my 8662. I tested win 7 rc on it and got 10300 on 3dmark06. I've since gone with Vista 64 on my SSD and am still at 10330.

I am using the nvidia drivers from the nvidia site, maybe with the out of box driver its a little lower on the score?

When 3dmark first starts the tests, mine shows ~74-75 fps whith the guys in the shuttle thing.

Check out the Vista tweaks in the Windows OS sub forum on this same site. Many of the tweaks have actually made my systems response time much faster than it already is, so you can only imagine how fast that is.

I would be more concerned with real life gaming performance than 3D mark results since they don't always relate to how well games play.

Why is 32-bit requisite? I hadn't heard that before.

As high as you want and work your way down from there. Especially if its the 260m GTX you got.
