Hey everyone, just another quick question about the NP8662 as I get ready to make a purchase. I read in a review somewhere that the notebook has mediocre audio, which I assume can't be any worse than the external speakers on my Dell M1210. However, I'm not really interested in dealing with an external sound card (I know, I'm lazy) everytime I want to play a game or listen to music. My question is... is the standard audio that bad? If I use headphones, will it be clear and okay? I really know nothing about audio, so it may seem like a silly question to ask, but I don't want to regret going with the standard built-in audio if I will be gaming and getting frustrated with the quality. Please let me know - thanks!

the on-board sound card is fine actually.

you can tweak the settings to really improve the sound coming out of the notebook speakers.

or use headphones or external speakers.

If you use headphones, it is going to be okay. Depending on the quality of your headphones, you will get better sound quality. Nowadays, all notebooks provide decent soundcards, it's just that the inbuilt speakers sound like tin cans.

dunno, normally guys recommend external sound card if at all you plan for one other than the on board. It will give more isolation from the electrical signals inside the laptop casing. you try to find more info on this. i dont know much technicaly.

most have been happy with this card.

some find that its not a huge gain in quality over the on-board soundcard.
