Is there any difference in speed or HD temps with these two hard drives?

    -320GB 7200rpm
    -500GB 7200rpm

I know they're both 7200rpm, but I'm just curious if one of them may run hotter than the other, or if one might be faster because of the difference in storage amount?

    Thanks!

Probably see a difference in speed after the 320 gb starts to get full when you still have 180 gb left in the 500gb. "Both full" same performance i would suspect. But when empty should be same(My opinion). Heat wise: they should be the same there too...

    Hope this helps

so there would be no cons at all to getting the 500GB?

I really dont think so but, I have heard around the boards that the NP8662 runs on the hot side...But, that is because of the 15' chasis with high power components, and not much room for the heat to disapate...Just get a fan stand to sit it on and you'll be ok.

Agreed with KY_BULLET. Invest in a good cooler.

You can also dremel small holes on the bottom of your chassis to allow better convection.

I really think that all of the M860TU hot HDD threads should be merged. Right now theres five on the front page and countless more past page two. It feels like the CNET forums all over again.

What kind of moron would drill vent holes with the bottom plate still on the laptop? I kid you, friend.

Some users have even blasted unnecessarily large holes and covered it up again with mesh. All that is needed are a few small holes on the plate over HDD.
