the service manual of the 8690/8760 show that the pm55 chipset does support usb 3.0.

is there any way we could make use of this by replacing a usb2.0 port with a 3.0 in the future (and not a firewire usb 3.0 adapter)?

the upgraded version of the 8760 already has 1 usb 3 port and 3 usb 2 ports.
not sure if this is only in the upgraded version so it can take the 480 graphics card.

    edit:
    taken from the kobalt forum:
G875/ G890/ G970X/ GS510 have USB3 and are all fairly new.. it is listed on their spec pages. The G870 + G860 do not.

The new revisions of these chassis' (8690, 8760, 8850) all have 1 USB3 port. There is no way of adding a USB3 port to earlier models except by Expresscard -> USB3 adapter

im getting so confused with all the new model numbers from around the world.
me thinks its time to help out and start a new thread with all the clevo resellers and their model numbers so it can be added to the slightly out of date (even though its still a brilliant thread) clevo buyers guide that Gophn started in 2008.

thats too bad then since the pm55 has built in support for the usb3 port.
i thought there was a way to remove a usb2 port and plug in a usb3 and connect it to the motherboard. isnt there a usb 3 connector somewhere in this diagram?

are you suggesting to tinker with the motherboard by re-soldering the usb ports themselves? do you even think that's worth it compared to just plugging in an express card to usb 3.0 interface?

no. if there was a connector you could snap/attach a usb 3 port to without soldering of course

i don't think that's possible. almost all usb ports are directly soldered on the board itself.
