    Hello guys,

Also got trouble sleeping at the moment as the 8800M GTX I have ordered through Nexoc is now in UPS's capable hands and should be here tomorrow

Now, I've had the cover off to clean my M570RU, but I wonder has anyone swapped a 8700M GT for a 8800M GTX and could tell me what I have to pay attention to?

Obviously the heatsink has to come off, but what's with that funky plastic strip etc? Maybe Justin or somebody with l33t skillz could give me a hint. For what this card cost me  I sure don't want to be fscking anything up!!

Also, I currently have the 1.00.07 BIOS, do I need the 1.00.08 to use the 8800M GTX? I have the image, but I can't flash it from Windows as it moans about memory managers. So what do I need, a DOS boot image? I don't think I have one kicking around :S

    Thanks in advance.

    - Stefan Mechanic

nothing at all hard about it. 7 screws..

remove the bottom cover. notice the order # of the screws on the heat sink and card they are numbered. remove in reverse order number wise. that strip is just there to help lift it out. lift up at the back side and out. replace with the new card at about a 30 degree angle slide it in and drop it down. screw the care down this time in normal number order. then screw down the 4 heat sink screws. replace bottom. done.. really a super easy job.

if im right you will be okay with .07 since that added support for the 8800gtx. BUT .08 will not have the sleep issue that has been stated by clevo. imo i would use .08. now i could be wrong on that fact because i never used 07 i went straight to 08.

and yes you will need to flash it with dos please see my full guide for the files needed if you dont have them already

When I did my spring cleaning I think #4 or #6 screw was nowhere to be found. But I forgot.
I usually take it all out,and clean it separately.
All this talk made me wanna think about upgrading to the GTX by myself,as an adventure...

It's an expensive adventure.. I'll be eating Ramen for a long time now.

I don't mean to complain, it's a miracle of technology and everything, but I can buy two 8800 GTX's for a desktop PC and run them in SLI mode for what I pay for ONE 8800M GTX for my laptop -_-

If you are just after the adventure.. I have a 8700M GT I'm going to sell ;)

Fewer sales means profit margin per card has to be higher to earn expected net profits, costs are higher due to the general lack of fungibility of notebook cards (i.e., Clevo 8800M won't fit in _Dell, and vice versa), and ... well, it's a notebook, and you're part of the captive notebook market, which has been well-trained over the years to overlook higher prices. :D

But you can game ANYWHERE on the planet. Just today I went to the park, enjoying a beautiful day, logged onto the wireless free net over there, and had a nice Quake 3 Internet session :)

    I`m hoping I won`t have issues when selling my 7950GTX ... :twitcy:
But seriosely, the ability to play anywhere, work on your laptop while in the park or watch a movie there, and the awesome power consumption is priceless.
Although the 8800MGTX price is ridiculous,I`m hoping I`ll get 400-450$ for my GTX and that`d shave off some of the debts :D

A lot of people said that 7950GTXs go for 500$ on ebay , including Justin.
    So 400 sounds reasonable.

I can always sell it for 399 if 400 don`t cut it lol :D
I`m not in it for the money, but below 250$ would be a ripoff.

The thing is that the card only fits other Clevo systems, and it`s only for extreme OCers who need a backup, SLI for D901C or replacement for burned down 8700M GTs.
At least mine is a tad better :D
