    Hey,

    I noticed something, in many games, and in windows the 8700M graphics card witch is in my clevo m570RU isn't displaying correct resolutions for the aspect ratio the laptop's 17" screen has. Only the native resolution 1920x1200 is correct. If you wish to select a lower resolution you wont have the right aspect ratio.

    In games and in windows i can choose from the following resolutions:

    [IMG]
    left is UT3 demo right is crysis SP demo

    when u calculate it only the correct resolution of 16:10 is the native 1920x1200

    Correct lower resolutions would be
    1920x1200
    1680x1050
    1440x900

    these are pretty common resolutions but cannot be selected in windows nor in most games. The only games in witch some of the correct ratio lower resolution can be selected are Half life 2 engine games. Anyone might know why this is and how i can solve it. I find it pretty annoying in for example crysis that circles arent perfectly round, but squashed.

    Greetings,

    Snuur

    maybe the game does not support higher than that....its full 1080P so maybe that was their goal.

    It could possibly be a driver issue. Different drivers allow you to use different resolutions, and sometimes you have to tweak configuration files to get the right aspect ratio for your screen. I have no idea what kind of tweaking would enable the other 16:10 resolutions in UT3 and Crysis, though. Sorry.

    yeah, i found out how to do this, ill explain for you guys.

    (im running dutch windows, ill try to translate, but some icons etc. might be called different names).

    1. right click on desktop -> properties

    2. settings -> advanced

    3. go to tab geforce 8700m -> start nvidia control panel

    4. go to monitor / screen (second icon)

    5. manage custom timing (most right link)

    6. check the box with " accept not allowed modi" (theres only 1 checkbox)

    7. click create -> advanced

    8. in the top 2 input fields put in your desired horizontal resolution and vertical resolution

    9. on the bottom click the dropdown menu and select "solid aspect ratio"

    10. the 2 greyed-out input fields should become accessible, fill in the same resolution as the top 2.

    11. click "test", your screen becomes black, and changes to the resolution, a popup windows shows with "keep these settings?" click yes before time runs out

    12. resolution changes back to old resolution, click ok to finish, now the new resolution is available now in certain games.

    screenshot to illustrate this:

    Old situation in UT3 demo:

    new situation after doing whats descibed above:

    Thanks, my M570RU ships tomorrow for delivery on Wednesday (sprung for overnight shipping, b/c I could not wait 5 days for UPS shipping). Just in time for Hellgate.

    Already downloading all the demos in anticipation.

    If you use the generic Sager drivers for your 8700 (I think they are labeled 101.xx) then you won't be able to select those other 16:10 reso's.

    I noticed this too, and was pissed until I loaded the modded 169.01's from laptopvideo2go. The 8700 has some problems running games at 1920x1200 to say the least, lol.

    After doing so, 1440x900 & 1680x1050 appeared as selectable resolutions in games and in the nvidia control panel for desktop resolution. Just make sure you use the nvidia scale option. 1440x900 I've found is just right for gaming and doesn't look stretched or wierd in any wa.
