I'm wondering if the 8800GTX will fit in directly in my M570ru or if there is any mobo modifications to be done.

    thanks

You mean the desktop 88 GTX? not a chance, that thing is huge.
If you meant the 88M GTX, it`s already available for it.

Of course I mean the mobile version, why the hell would I put a desktop card in there...?

And I know its available for it, I just dont know what mobo modifications I'll have to make. (I was told there were mobo modifications to be done)

It depends on which motherboard revision you have. If you have v3 it works with some S3 issues (read not working), if you have v4+ then it works without problems. I guess no one tested on v2 and above.

V4.1 is my mobo version, will I need any hardware modification?
If so, where can I find whats to be changed?

Call the retailer you got the card from.

personally I figured the 5791/2/3 were the only ones that officially supported the 8800m

    phone or email your retailer.

If you want confirmation, you'll have to contact the reseller you purchased from. However, to my recollection (and I'm happy to be corrected if I'm wrong :D ), only the 9260/1 needed a mobo modification to be able to function with the 8800M. The 5790 did not require a mobo modification to be able to use the 8800M; however the earlier 579x iterations (e.g., 5790, 5791, 5792) could not enter sleep mode with the 8800M installed - for that a modification was required. If you search around some more on this forum, you should find the relevant discussions. :)

Nor entirely right. The 5790 and 5791 might of had those problems, but 5792 and 5793 no.
Actually the only thing that matters is the motherboard revision.

Apparently, according to eurocom, the 4.1 requires modifications.

I knew it was only some of them, but wasn't exactly sure where the dividing line was (ok, so I was feeling more than usually lazy yesterday - Sunday - and didn't feel like searching through the forum to find the exact model numbers that had the s3 sleep problem  ).

hmmm thats really interesting I just got my M571RU-U not long ago and it also had problems with standby. Completely forgot about the S3 issue, but hibernate works just fine.

Edit: Just tried standby and it works now with my recent bios update.

SO the older 5790/1 do work with the 88M GTX, but with a bios flash? sounds picky, but kinda cool :D
    Screw S3, I love hibernate :D

    They work, but without S3.
