It's already been posted somewhere, but I think no one will have a 8800M laptop in his/her hands until early December.
-
This news has been leaked recently, I got a hold of this leak for over a week now from and around Nvidia.
It seems that they have been working on the die-shrink for a while now, and finally has gotten to a point to really bring out a high-end mobile DX10 card with at least 256-bit mem interface... and a minimal 35w TDP.... which will require the notebook to have at least a MXM-III slot. (No problem for the new Clevo's... with MXM-IV)
I cannot confirm on the exact date, but many sources have pointed toward the 3rd or 4th week of November. -

I'd believe someone that actually ships the laptop instead of some site. -

Yeah, but it's good to talk it up in hopes for before the end of the year! Here is another one.

Not sure if the necessarily relates but if not its a heck of a coincidence...Alienware is running a contest right now to win a trip to NY from 11/18-11/20. In the Terms of Conditions for the contest, it states the trip is to attend an "exclusive Alienware launch event", which presumably would be on 11/19 if the winner flies in on 11/18 and out on 11/20. November 19 has been the rumored date in a lot of the recent tech site stories. Like I said, the Alienware event may be totally unrelated but its at least interesting until further notice.
-
Oh man If this really happens this would be sweet I can't wait till I upgrade to the 8800M GTX in the Sager 9261 with SLI enable this would be sweet
-
So the question is do I wait another month and two weeks for the 8800 or do I go ahead and order my NB next week with the 7950????? Be kinda hard to sell the 7950 a few months from now to upgrade....decsions!! But the 7950 should do well for another year or so and Directx10 games wont be mainstream for a long time.
-
If I were you I would get the NVIDIA 8700GT since its cheap and wait for the 8800M.
-
There is no guarantee that you will be able to switch the cards even the 8800 series even if it is MXMII
-
Yes was thinking of this too, the 7950 is king right now, but the 8800 will take the title....BUT we still dont know what the specs are gonna be, right now its all specuation
but Im sure it will be 256 instead of 128
-
If they make an 8700 with a 256-bit memory controller, I'm sure it will beat the 7950. That's 99% of the reason why the 8700 isn't a decent card now.
-
man another thing that sucks. i just got mine and would have def waitied if i knew it would not be much longer than this. freaking hell...
-
I have sent an email to Sagernotebook, asking them to confirm that/when a new card is coming and if it is going to be supported. I will feedback their answer here.
-
It's a never ending wait zfactor. No matter what you buy, something better, faster, cheaper will trump it in 3-6 months. All we do is say ha! At least the drivers for my older video card are more dependable than the new one and hope the new hardware crashes alot so we can laugh at the people who did wait..... no animosity here, oh no. Nothing a high powered rifle can't handle.
LOL, Mr. Eurocom, isn't that the whole reason why forums exist? To spread hype and hearsay? -
well 3-6 months would be fine with me.. im talking 3-4 weeks. lol.. yeah i know i know.. but man it just gets to you
-
I agree with Mr. Eurocom on this one due to several reasons.
It's a funny coincidence that the speculated realease is the 19th since it's the same date of Crysis launch
These are excellent news, let's see what kind of upgrade support we get on the Clevo d901c.
Trance -
Hi DFTrance,
A crysis demo is out for download, so hurry, google and get to work!
I am playing it, with reduced quality, with a single 8700. Let's see how you do! -

True there is always something better and faster coming, but this news is about the first REAL DX10 card that should be the KING for a while.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Well Ive decided to go ahead and get the 7950, one I cant wait any longer cause I'll be deploying soon, two, When I get back from deployment Ill be able to afford the 8800, but ITS NOT guaranteed that Ill be able to upgrade, and three I still play older games anyways and even new games like Bioshock, Assassins Creed, and Orange Box, will do fairly well on the 7950, and four DX10 games wont go mainstream for a long time and then ya got DX10.1 to worry about later on down the road.....
-
I can wait to order by 9261 until the 8800 is available,if it will only be a few months.
-
its the day after my birthday
-
will this fit in my 5790 if i were to upgrade to it down the road?
-
more than likely, yes.
-
I placed my Clevo d901c with a single 7950 order about two weeks ago, should get my order in another week or so. I knew full well this was around the corner. A man has to be able to play Hell Gate on the road whilst waiting for the new 8800s after all
I have no problem even 3 weeks after I got my Clevo d901c to dump the 7950 and upgrade to 2 SLIed 8800s. Thats the plan anyways.
Crossing fingers they will fit and run well in the Clevo d901c. I guess the chances are good, as the Clevo d901c very new also... any case, hoping for the best! -
Hi, I got a question even tho they say that the NVIDIA 8800M GTX use MXM type 3 so does that mean that it will work with the Sager 9261? Does Sager 9261 use MXM type 4? Also does this mean that newer video card should work with this system if they come out with better video card then 8800M GTX?
-
It's specs require at least MXM-III... so it will easily work in the powerful Clevo's with MXM-IV
-
Hi, Gophen thanks for the fast replay I can't wait till they come out with the new 8800M GTX I will for sure buy it when it first comes out
-
earlier than expected though... however, as i stated earlier, looking at the clevo refreshments this is not a strange date.
-
if the M570RU isn't going to be upgradable to 8800M, I'm going to sue Clevo for false advertising
-
don't worry, maak je niet druk, haha.
i dont think they are launching a card which can't fit in any of todays notebooks, since no new clevo's / dell's / other 17"gaming notebooks have been announced to come early december?
i bet that would rape the sales XD -
Which card is this going to be replaced? Of the 3 cards the 8700 GT is the worst performer but is DX10 supported and was made for vista.
-
this is not directly a replacement for anything, just a well performing card (i assume)
it overpowers the 8700 and most likely also the 7950gtx by a nice margin, so you could assume this is just the new king @ notebook graphics processing units. -
I don't really mean a direct replacement, just that most notebooks give only a choice between 2 video cards, assuming they stick with that trend when the 8800 is released, I was wondering which card would be dropped?
-
Let's say the 8800M GTX comes out November 19th, where would anyone go about purchasing one, from the Company the notebook was purchased from, an online retailer, ebay, what?
-
The first place I would go to try to get one of the new cards when they come out would be the place where I bought my notebook from. Any of the resellers here selling the Clevos will most likely start offering the new cards and or an upgrade option to send your notebook in and they will replace it for you. At least that is what I believe. Call/email your reseller and ask.
-
I'll probably wait till there's some guide online
and then do it myself
(that is: once i got the funds and permission from the Big Chief
)
-
Same here... Can't wait!
-
STOP.
Here is the info that you guys need to understand:
1) When the card is available (and it will be), the first places to get it will be the notebook distributors (for Clevo notebook: Sager, Pro-Star, Eurocom)... then the other vendors and resellers [that get their systems from the listed 3]
2) These cards are user upgradeable.... it takes less than a minute or two to remove the heatsink and take the MXM card out of its slot.
Note: its simple if you are confident, if you are unsure, let the vendor/reseller do it.
3) Price/Cost: the cost of the new videocard is significant... usually $500+ for the standalone card. As for an upgrade, it will be announced by the number of vendors as soon as the assess price differences and maybe labor if they have to do the swap. Videocard "upgrade programs" for Clevo notebooks have been around... but its up to the vendor to decide the cost.
So there you have it.... be patient. -
How much over the 8700 would it be in a 9261?
-
I recommend to directly contact your vendor for that answer, each vendor might charge slightly different.
You can get your answer in a few minutes with a phone call or email. -
If anyone is thinking of dumping their 7950 for the new bad boy on the block LMK and I might be willing to take it off your hands....
-
hehe, I don't think they'll let it go cheap
-
i predict if the 8800 is faster than the 7950gtx it will be a $595 dollar card. if it is only as fast as the 7950gtx it will be a $495 dollar card and the 7950gtx and 8700gtx will drop in price by about $100 dollars.
-
Well Im still going with the 7950 for now and waiting for a few months before the 8800's get tested, also curious what the benchmarks will be, also crysis should to well on the 7950, minus the dx10 eye candy

i'm going to wait.
if i order now i wont get it till around that time anyway. 2 or3 weeks.
Then i would be mad for not waiting.
lol. I think once u get the 8800 u will be good for a while.
Plus prices of the lappy might drop.
lol. NOT!
-
One may wait (I know I've done that before) but be prepared to wait about 3 months (January or February 2008) and not just a few weeks. IMHO of course.

what do u think the upgrade charge would be to swap out the 2 8700's for new 8800's when they come out
im not waiting till after christmas for my lappy
Kozi was having a problem with his 8700 cards in sli -
the'll most likely charge you full price: it's not like they can sell the 7950GTX/8700M when the 8800M gets released ... or not at a full price anyway
so you'll have to pay almost 100% of the price of the 8800M -
trance, i honestly believe you can have an 8800 in your notebook by 1 december.
8800M GTX November 19th???
