I ran AtiTool to check the clocks of my graphics cards.

It says the default clock is 500 core and 799 memory.

However, it says that for 2D it is 200 core and 100 memory, for 3d it is 300 core and 200 memory, and for 3d performance it is 380 core and 300 memory.

    GPU-Z reports the same.

I am running laptop in performance mode.

Do I have something wrong with my clocks? I did get 13K+ 3dmark06 which I thought was normal for my cards in Sli... but I wouldn't want not to reap all the benefits because they happen to be underclocked!!

Will I be safe if I "overclock" my cards to the stock 500/800 using AtiTool?

I have a screenshot but I didn't bring my laptop to the place where I have net access.... duh... I'll be posting screenshots later.

If you're getting over 13K in 3DMark06 your clocks are OK (500/799).

just like CPU, every GPUs downclock themselves automatically while not gaming or video editing etc. your readings are perfectly normal. You don't want it stay at 80F constantly.

Don't OC unless you can't play the games ... Don't do anything unnecessary.

ur clocks are fine... check them while ur running a game and you will see they are at full speed.. they auto-downclock when not playing a intensive 3dgame or benchmarking.

I don't want to OC my cards, I want them to run at stock without having them inadvertently underclocked.

I ran Atitool and GPU-Z during a game, and even when I run the Atitool furry cube. it seems that the clocks remain below stock.

Atitool seems not to be working properly to log the temperatures and clocks (probably because of Vista x64?).

Is there a reliable program which can log my temperatures and clocks in-game (so I can see them without having to Alt-Tab out of the game), maybe Rivatuner has those options?

Use NVTray. If I remember right it shows you clocks, temps, and FPS while you're playing a game.

    Here is what I mean:

    [IMG][/IMG]

Shouldn't at least the "3D Perf" read the stock clocks?

Ati tool does not show your max clocks because it does not show the extra one. There are 4 categories, 2d, throtle, 3d, and extra. The downclocking of your cards when it is not doing anything is normal and set in the your vbios so if you want to change that you would have to edit your vbios.

I checked with Rivatuner. Unlike AtiTool, Rivatuner shows the low clocks only when I'm on battery power. It shows the normal stock clocks when on ac power, and the clocks change dynamically whenever I power on or off from the wall socket. Now I am sure my clocks are correct. :)

What I realised is that if I start on battery, the clocks don't increase when I plug in the wall socket. They only increase and decrease if I power on the notebook while plugged to the wall socket.
