Hi,
I think my 8800m gtx in my d901c is dying.
It occasionally comes up with little white dots on the screen when im flicking through pages in the bios.
It was doing this a while ago, but somehow i managed to fix it by reseating the gpu and applying some more heatsink. However, this problem has come back, i think due to overheating. do you think its worth keeping to reapply the thermal grease again until it works - worked last time.
however, this time it seems to be on its way out.
Any ideas about what I should do? Get a new 8800mgtx? You know where I can get one? they seem quite expensive.
Could I go for an upgrade here - http://www.mxm-upgrade.com/D901c.html
They suggest going up to a 280 gtx? Although ive heard of problems of people on this board upgrading to this. Is it mxm 2.1 type HE?
In the pictures there is no rubber seal across the RAM on the GPU, however my 8800m has rubber.
Also, will i need to upgrade my bios as the article states? They dont actually state where to get the upgraded bios - how could I get hold of this? i have bios 1.00.15, would i need to upgrade to 1.00.22 ?
Are there any other cards that have been tested in the d901c successfully?
Its a shame, because apart from this the laptop works lovely...
Cheers
Newty

Yeah, bump!
Heck, I'll work with ya. -
Since its already dead try to bake it. http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...r-your-dead-graphics-card-your-alienware.html
This fixed my 8800m GTX. Cheap upgrade is the Quadro FX 3700m. -
I was going to tell you to reflow or bake it. If you bake it make sure the motherboard\Video Card is rohs compliant\lead free. Because the lead in the solder will oxide hazardous fumes and could possibe harm your health without you knowing it. So bake it in a oven you do not personally use for eatting regardless if its rohs compliant\lead free just to be safe.

Good advice, but I highly doubt most people have a second oven lying around for baking graphics cards...

can you add yourself to this poll please http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/573250-dead-graphics-cards.html

Re-flowing with a oven and heat gun is usually temporary last about a year or 2 from what I am told.
