Hey, all. Been a while since I've visited these boards. Anyway, I'm an alpha tester for an upcoming game. Due to the terms of my NDA, I don't think I can say much more than that. But the first testing period is in a couple of days, and the developer just released some bad news. Apparently they've confirmed an error brought about by certain nvidia cards running with windows Vista. On the list of confirmed cards was the 8800GTX(G80). They also said that there may be other cards not mentioned which have the same problem. (I'm assuming they couldn't test every nvidia model.)

Anyway, I'm running vista home premium 64 bit and have an 8800m gtx. I looked up its codename, and it is different from the desktop's G80, but I have a bad feeling about this. They suggested a fix which they said may work in some cases, but not all.

I know this isn't a whole lot of information to go on, but what are some of your thoughts? Do you think its likely that a problem which affects the 8800gtx desktop edition (as well as several other desktop cards) would also affect the laptop equivalent, or is there simply no way to know? I think I'm also going to go make a post in the windows forum about how quickly and painlessly I can upgrade to 7 in a pinch lol.

It's an alpha version client and, as such, is very far from finished. These are the sorts of problems that they're expecting to run into so that they can be handled before the game's commercial release.

I assume FF14. Anyway you shouldn't worry. The 8800m GTX is based on the G92 core. You should be fine.

i am waiting for the game as the first one was my first mmo and it was a religious experience lol.

one thing that scares me is that currently the requirement to run it is listed as a 8800 gtx or greater. in other words, i don't want to be stuck on low settings. it is sort of strange since an 8800 gtx is twice as powerful as the gpu in the consoles.
