I just ordered an NP9150 with the GTX 670MX gpu, but I'm wondering if the $100 is worth the upgrade to a 675MX? How noticeable is the difference in gaming and doing CAD work? I'm not interested in benchmarks, but actual user experiences. Is the fps difference a good amount or is it just a few numbers here and there?

Benchmarks are a good way to judge what the actual difference is going to be, roughly speaking over 10% starts to become noticeable.
What I think is really good is that we have already seen this exact setup before on the desktop!
GTX660ti and the GTX670 are identical apart from ROP/memory bandwidth.
So take this review for instance:
AnandTech - The GeForce GTX 660 Ti Review, Feat. EVGA, Zotac, and Gigabyte
Look at the titles where it makes a difference or where not and it will pretty much be a repeat performance between the 670MX and 675MX. -
There is a reasonable difference, around 20%. Check this site for gaming benchmarks:
Computer Games on Laptop Graphic Cards - Notebookcheck.net Tech
I think they just benchmark the games without playing with drivers to improve optimization.
EDIT: I assumed you meant benchmarks like 3Dmark rather than gaming benchmarks, apologies if I was mistaken. Also listen to Meaker, he has been very helpful. -
Thanks guys, meaker, I plan on reading that as soon as I get a chance. I do use notebook check and have seen the numbers, but I've never had a nice enough computer to play games before, so I don't know if the 5-10 GPS difference is worth the $100.

You are the only one capable of answering that question, to me it would be, but I am really picky when it comes to FPS.

Decided to go with the upgrade even though the fps difference isn't huge. Almost seems like the 670mx gets better numbers in some games, often in all but ultra setting. I figured though, it would last a little longer which means I'll have more time to save up for the 680m, more time to let the price drop too. Hopefully the change won't make my wait time any longer.

good decision indeed! ive recently read a review on notebookcheck putting the 670MX and 670M on par (across 15 or 16 different games that were tested)! so not really worth it in my opinion

Yea, I did some more researching and noticed the same thing. I don't like to go by what notebookcheck say's, I always take what they say with a big bag of salt. I also noticed, that the numbers for game benchmarks are different on the gpu's pages and the numbers on the chart that compares fps on all gpu's. The chart shows that the 675mx is definitely better and I'm happy I went with the upgrade. I think I've seen a few people say the 675mx is about twice as fast as the 650m. Not too sure how true that is, but if it is, ~50% increase for $100 isn't too bad.

The 650 is a totally different chip though, the 670MX is much faster than it.
The 675MX with some tweaking becomes even stronger though so you have some room to play later if you want too. -
thanks for the thread, how much cooler is the 675mx compared to the 670mx?
-
cooler tempwise or perf.wise?
concerning temps the 670mx should run cooler with the same coolig system. perf. wise the 675mx is like 30-50% faster as far as i remember.
