    Recently purchased a used 9260 from NBR. Any1 here using quads 95W in 9260( not 9261 or 9262) without motherboard uprgade. I am being told that Q6600 and Q6700 95W will work good in them.

    I believe a few threads were made about this exact subject.

    the Q6600 (G0-stepping) has been shown to work with it.

    @gophn

    thanks. You have advised me to use 6600 or 6700 with g0 stepping previously. But before trying out that I wanted to see if any 1 uses quads long term in 9260 without or with any issues..

    the cooling should be fine, and as long as the power brick is the 220w kind, then the power should be fine as well.

    what motherboard upgrade? it's usually just a bios update. update your bios and you should be good to go.

    right now im running a 130 watt cpu with no problems.

    i know it's not a np9261 or 9260 but there are people who have your model and are running an over clocked quad (q6600)

    When the system went from the NP9260 to the 9261/2 series, the motherboard upgrade was just on account of a change in how certain signals were routed between the GPUs and the display unit in order to accomodate the then-new 8800Ms in SLi; no changes to the physical hardware, including the cooling system, were made when the system started sporting the quad-cores.

    Based on that, I'd say that at most you should only need a BIOS update in order to run a quad-core in a 9260.
