Hi,
I asked about this problem when I had a faulty Rock laptop and assumed it was part of the fault, but after sending that one back and getting a Kobalt laptop (which is running great and service from Kobalt has been exemplary), the system still emits an intermittent beep alarm during or just after gameplay, like a typical system beep when you boot up a desktop computer but 1 second long and intermittent about 5 or 6 beeps each time, and also comes through the normal speakers.
It would be strange that no one else has experienced this. If anybody has, do you know what it is? Can it be stopped? Is it anything to worry about? I can't find any reports in the administration tools.
Otherwise, GPU and CPU temps are fine (CPUs not exceeding 60oC during games, GPUs rarely exceeding 70oC), the only unknown being the ACPI temp which is around 59-62oC during games and 57oC at idle.

Proably you go the problem with the KBC (or something like that). I had similar problem and I solved it installing the new KBC solved the problem. You should ask for hte latest version of KBC from Kobalt.

have your reseller email you the KBC firmware update that fixes this problem. i had the same thing when i first got my 9262.

Thanks guys. I just found your old thread from May, Argh. Very useful. I'll have to get hold of the firmware then and try the max fans trick in the mean time.
Strange that they don't install the proper firmware in the first place. -
Proably they got the cases before the firmware came out and just forgot to put on the new ones or did not have time.

Thanks Theriko. I don't suppose you know where I can find that for Vista 64-bit? I just tried the vista one and it says it's not for my version of Windows. Would it be the same with the Bios?

Hi Pasoleatis, could you expand on that a bit? How would I do that? And what would be a DOS bootable device?

Take the KBE or the bios and extract it on the USB stick. reboot and get into BIOS (by pressing F2 before it gets the windows log image I think) where you change the device from where it will boot, set first to boot from something that is related to removable device ( I apologize I do not have access to my BIOS in this moment to tell you exact , but check in the manual how to change the boot order). Reboot with the USB stick plugged in. Run some file that has extension .bat (probably it is called update.bat). After you run the program, reboot and then go in to BIOS to change the boot order to the initial one (like cd, hdd etc or hdd,cd, etc).
Simple. Install the BIOS update and then one of the KBE (Edit: depending on the key you have, check the next post it is explaining)
(Check in the manual about how to get in BIOS and change the boot order there are good instructions)

The windows logo on the vista keyboard is in a circle, I have posted pictures

Thanks for the advice. I have one 8GB USB flash drive which I don't want to format so I'll have to try to get a cheap small one.
So what happens if you almost exclusively use a normal desktop keyboard through the USB port? And also on the desktop keyboard it's not really clear which type of Windows key it is. -
YOu can also do bootable cd's. For that you need the image of a boot-able windows 98 start-up disk and a burner software which has the option to make boot-able cd's. The burning sofware will read the booting informaion from the image and you can add the rest of the files nornally to the cd.

Hi gls5000, only just seen this thread. If you can send me an email with the kb version you have I will send the update over to you on a bootable CD (if it's not 10) and you can flash it from that
. It should already have 10 on it (will say which on the splash screen underneath the BIOS version).
-
Hi Neil, that would be excellent, thanks.
The only numbers I can find on the splash screens are BIOS version (1.08 09072006) and the Intel Matrix Storage Manager option ROM (v6.1.0.1002). Everything else is for the hard drives. -
Anyway, even the previous one (.08 ) should solve the beeping problem, so I do not see this as a problem (not having the lates version).
