Well I thought I had my problems fixed, after I installed Vista SP1 Evaluation copy, I couldnt do anything netowrk related without freezing the computer. So I uninstalled the device and its drivers, and reinstalled the ones from the cd. That seemed to fix the issue, and it was working just fine, except it seemed really slow. So I let windows update install a newer version, which I had let it do before, hoping it would fix my problems.

So everything was working great after I let windows update the drivers. Then I tried to access files from my Dell 9300, and was denied access, even though I have file sharing on, and had 2 of my 3 HDD's shared. I can see them from my 9300, but can not access them. So I went looking into my security settings. I am using the McAfee Virus plus application that PCMW sent with my XR5. Now when I go into manage network from my McAfee menu, my computer hangs. I let it go for 20 min. Didn't un-freeze. So now I am uninstalling Vista SP1 Evaluation copy, hoping this is whats causing my inability to share files.

BTW, I want to point out, that I noticed that after I wiped my WLAN drivers, and re-installed the ones it came with, I noticed the fn + f11 combo, while it does turn the status light for the wireless off, it does not disable the device, and I can continue to use it.

    Any thoughts?

I would suggest testing without installing McAfee to insure some firewall/security setting is not interfering. If you can see shares but not access it could just be a permissions issue. Have you checked both share permissions and security permissions on the shared folders?

You may also want to create a test folder on your 9300, set it to full control read/write share and file permissions and use that to evaluate share access. Full drive shares can be tricky to config for sharing completely.

Another test of the network card itself would be to do a large download from a web site to insure it is not a card/router type issue. This would eliminate windows share/file permissions as a cause.

What kind of router do you have? I had issues with the Lynksis WRT150N. I'm returning it today for a DLink

Even though I'm returning it I found that the wireless worked just fine if you sent the broadcast to G Only mode. But still whats the use of having a N router if you can't utilize the N speed.

I agree, this sounds like a firewall issue. Try getting rid of McAfee and going from there.

Although I have the Intel WiFi Link 4965AGN and have no problems, hopefully it is NOT your card.

hmm.. i noticed after installing McAfee, my speed slowed down considerably, but no speed issues were on my desktop which uses Norton.

if it is the case again today, i will be uninstalilng.

I had been using my wireless for weeks without issue, other than my computer freezing, after it had waken up from sleep mode. So I turned sleep off. Then while trying to watch a movie on my 9300, form my XR5's drive, which worked for about 40 seconds. Then the movie stopped and the XR5 froze again. Since then I have been trying to fix one issue, only finding that others arise.

I am not going to reformat my C: and reinstall Vista

Have you found any solution to this yet.. I can use my wireless for emails. But if I stress it by going to a site that test my transfer rate it freezes. Or if a send really heavy files.. It has nothing to do with sleep mode.. I dont have a firewall and i dont have vista sp1 installed...
