If I configure a 9262 with a Q9440 peocessor and 3 - 200GB 7200RPM Hard Drives What will the battery life be if I am just surfing the internet?

    Or if I'm watching a Blu-Ray movie?

One of the biggest reasons I'm getting a new laptop is because my current laptop is MUCH slower than my desktop at RIPPING and burning DVD's and CD's........it's a 2 year old Dell E1505.

I mainly want a laptop that will Rip and Burn CD's and DVD's as fast as my desktop.........am I looking at too big of a laptop processor for that?

Would a top of the line prosessor that's made for a Laptop give me the results I'm looking for?

My E1505 from dell has a T2500 processor at 2Ghz and is horrible at ripping

No, if you want speed, the quad is the way to go.
Just don`t expect good battery life.

You could take out your two non-boot drives on the go... that could save 10-20 mins.

I would guess it would be <1hr as well with tweaking.

Does anyone really use the battery? Even in airports I usually find places to plug my laptop in. The only place would maybe be on an airplane but im not sure I would want to get this huge laptop out in an airplane..

In the cheap seats, you couldn`t use it on your lap,the weight alone is too much. Plus, 17 inchers are hard to fit, you`d risk denting it .

You can Undervolt the CPU, underclock the GPU, reduce screen brightness, disable all peripherals, second GPU,all drives except one...and you might get away with over 1.5 hours.

@Eleron:is it possible to disable a not needed HDD so it won't take power other than physically taking it out?

Seriously, I look at a battery in a computer like the 9262 as an UPS. :D
Don't think of it as a laptop, but as a portable desktop. In other words, you need power where ever you go. :D

    Chris.

Its not that bad for such a powerful notebook.

Its only 40 min if you run everything at max performance.

you can get about 1:45 out of it. I mainly use RMclock to throttle my CPU speed and voltage dynamically... and set my HDDs to turn off after 10min of idle.

Its a shame not to run the 9262 at anything but max performance.
So I still carry an IBM T62 during travel (along with the 9262 ;)

has anyone looked into a better battery for it yet? As a matter of fact what happens when the battery in this beast needs to be replaced? Is it easy to find a replacement generic?

No really, as much has you need RAID, SLI an quad core, if you plan any mobility at all don't bother. The 9262 is basically a desktop that can be moved more readily should you move somewhere in a pinch. If you really need performance with battery life aim for something like the 5973.

If you can get atleast 1:30 with battery as Gophn said,it's good enough IMHO.

People buy this thing for battery life?

I thought it was just so they didnt have to drag a tower and a lcd screen all over the place?

Yeah, IMO, the 9262 is a compact desktop with a built-in UPS. :D

pretty good UPS that can last up to 1 hour 45 min if you set your CPU throttling. :)
