It seems my beloved beast has finally let me down. While in the middle of a game the colors on my screen flashed all crazy, then froze up. I couldn't control/alt/delete or anything else to exit out so I had to hard boot it.

Upon restarting everything sounded fine, but there was no display. I could actually even log into Windows, but nothing popped up on the screen. Next I tried an external monitor an nothing... =(.

    Any suggestions?

are you getting this sort of display.
if youve got 2 cards then theres no way both would die at once so its just finding out which one is dead.

No display at all. I'm in the process of switching out the GPUS. I'm not sure which is the main card though. If it's facing me (upside down and so that I can read the text on the bottom on the notebook) I would assume the main card would be on the farthest right, correct?

Also...while unscrewing the fans there was a spark followed by the smell of burning electronics...I may have put the final nail in the coffin.

I seem to be stuck now. I'm not sure how to get the big bronze brackets to come off.

did you remove the battery and hold the on/off switch down for about 20 seconds to remove any charge.
sounds like you might have fried something else.

check out therico's sig which is the best place to find user and service manuals http://forum.notebookreview.com/member.php?u=86450

I was supposed to go in through the keyboard, wasn't I?

Edit: guess not... I'm pretty bad at this...think I'll be going back to desktops soon. At least those make sense.

Alright, only a few hours later and I managed to move GPU 2 to GPU 1 slot, and it works again. Unfortunately I lost about 30% performance, but oh well. This thing just needs to last another year.

You should try the performance without the former main card (that was in the corner of the laptop and you moved it near the CPU/RAM area).
That should be the fried card that still does some work thanks to the SLI cable.
I am curious if that card's contribution is worth anything, I am assuming it does.
