Can someone with a q9650 in their d901c give me some performance with GTA 4 on Maximum? To get max settings you have to create a text file called commandline.txt and type "-norestrictions" without quotes. Set all options as high as they can go.... Make sure your game is all the way up to date with version 1.03 for best performance. Thx guys

The D901C with the Q9650 and 9800M GTX will run snail slow at all max at 1680x1050.

damnit..... core i7 will be better but i would like sli but if it comes down to the m98 and d900f i might choose the d900f over m98 because of i7.... gtx 280m is still fast right? im just worried on how my gaming experience will be thats all...

Do consider that GTAIV is very taxing on both the CPU and the GPU if you want nice graphics. Even if we disregard the CPU, no G92M would never be able to run the game over 30fps at all maximum graphics settings. Will it run the game at settings well above the PS3 and XBOX 360 equivilants? Definately.
Also, GTAIV does not support SLi. -
I did a FRAPS test and got minimum 14, avg 25.9 with maxed settings. I think the i7 will do about the same at the higher WUXGA res.
Keep in mind maxed settings are really unecessary, I turn shadow objects to 0 from the get go, and 100 view/detail distance isn't needed to enjoy the game.
Err sorry, didn't realize this is talking about the 9262. That will perform about equal to my rig (1680 x 1050). I don't think GTA4 supports sli either.
And it's extremely taxing on the CPU. 3 of the cores frequently hit 90-100% useage, and the 4th core gets to ~75%. -
thx guys, but i disagree with core i7 statement. core i7 will kill these because it has 8 cores. it really has 4 cores but has some crap that makes the computer recognize 8 or something. im not sure if you can use clockgen or setfsb on 9280 but the i7 920 can be stably overclocked to 4.2GHz... on youtube a guy with Core i7 920 @ 4.2Ghz, 8800GT's 512MB SLI can run completely maxed gta 4 with 60fps avg.... amazing. kinda makes me lean more toward the d900f though lol

In the NP9280, it's unlikely you can OC the 920 or 940/50. Probably only the extreme models to some extent, but that will be hot as @#$%.
And it's called hyper threading. The tech originated in the P4, it's been overhauled but the same idea. I don't know if GTA4 would make use of the extra threads, but here is a monitor image on 4 cores.

@ soviet sunrise: you are probably right now that i think of it... it gave better performance for some guy on youtube but i have no idea...
@ anothergeek: justin says they had a test model maxed out and it had no heat problems...
I dont know what i need to know... I know that the i7 will kill the core 2 but i dont know how gta 4 performs on a Q9650... -
GTA IV seems counterproductive to me. Why create a game with massive requirements, but not have it utilize the newest technology?
Having GTA IV not being able to utilize SLI would be like Crysis only being able to utilize 1x CPU core...
Also I don't think the i7 will "kill" the core2quad in gaming performance. The bottleneck of 99% of the system will still be the GPU. It's been proven that the i7 vs the q9650 will not increase the GPU score in vantage which means if your graphics card is weaker than the Q9650 that upgrading to an i7 will have little to no effect in games.
that being said the 9262 should still beat the 9280 in gaming benchmarks (with anything that utilizes SLI) at least until nvidia releases a new generation of mobile gpus, and not just the current ones with slightly higher clocks and shaders. -

I'm not surprised. Though I agree that Rockstar should have put a little more time into porting the game, the new engine is more of a feeler for the public. Back in 2002 when GTAIII was released, the Nvidia FX 4 and 5's, and Intel Pentium III and 4's were brought to their knees. Then when Vice City was released the next year, the engine was streamlined very nicely, as well as being treated with such an amazing storyline.
I believe we are seeing the same trend from Rockstar here. The next GTA release will most likely have these performance issues ironed out to run more smoothly on legacy setups. -
This youtube clip will give you good some idea. I don't know if he still has that laptop anymore but if he does, you could always ask him how it runs at those settings you mentioned. GTA IV's performance also depends on what drivers you are using. I only say this because I experienced a 10+ fps increase and lag free performance after I started using 180.84 beta drivers that were apparently designed specifically to improve performance in that game.
