Seems like every time i visit this site the OCZ core series ssd is getting hit a bit more by some new review link, raising legitimate questions that need consideration about those ssd's. Just pointing out the need to consider early adoption of ssd technology with caution, and get well informed before you purchase.

I had an order with xotic for a 9262 with

    - ~ 128GB OCZ Core Series SSD (Serial-ATA II) ETA 7/25/2008
    - ~ 128GB OCZ Core Series SSD (Serial-ATA II) ETA 7/25/2008
    - ~ 128GB OCZ Core Series SSD (Serial-ATA II) ETA 7/25/2008
    - Raid 0-Stripe all three drives

but at $1300 for the drives on that order, I changed my mind and my order. I just reconfigured it with

    - ~ 200GB 7200RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 - 16MB Cache)
    - ~ 200GB 7200RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 - 16MB Cache)
    - ~ 200GB 7200RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 - 16MB Cache)
    - HDD Raid Settings - OFF

First drive gets the O/S, second drive gets program files, particularly Oracle 10g system and system management database files, and third drive will get my Oracle application database files where the heaviest read/write action happens. All drives on the order, for about $325 total

I'm headed for the sidelines on the SSD's until Intel makes their offering, when I might be lured back in to try a 3 drive RAID 0 configuration.

Anyone care to speculate on the suitability of three mechanicals, no raid, for Oracle data warehouse development ?

I think the 200GB 7200rpm drives would do fine, but you might consider getting the 320GB 5400rpms... since they perform just as well as the 200GB 7200rpm drives.

Or just get the newest 320GB 7200rpm drives. :)

I second the 320/5400 idea. About 100$ each, and they`re just as fast as the 200/7200 hdds, with 60% more space.
