For those with a WUXGA display, what lower resolutions are usable besides 1900x1200? I am thinking that text may too small at the highest setting.

Scaling wise , 1680x1050, 1440x900 and 1280x800. These all maintain the 16:10 aspect ratio. However, in Vista and XP you can increase DPI , and in webpages, pressing ctrl+wheelUP will increase test size. ctrl+wheelDOWN will decrease it.

I agree with what eleron911 says, but it is a much better option to increase your DPI and icon size than to scale the resolution down from its Native Resolution. The image will stay much more clear and sharp that way.

Yea,I pretty much use desktop 1920x1200 resolution and game at that res also, where I can, where I can`t, I force it :D

The display can be tiny, but I use my laptop at night on a table ,4 feet away and can still clearly read anything . But I did increase my DPI (to 123% atm)

All good options, thanks. How would changing the DPI and icon size affect playing games?

I play most of my games at native(although not all on high, the image is clear and crisp and not fuzzy, which makes a whole lot of difference). But on those on which I scale , I only choose the resolutions that maintain the 16:10 aspect ratio. You won`t be disappointed :)

Long ago when I got my Sager 8790 I initially got the 1920x1200 with windows XP. It was horrible imho, the icons and text were too small and cards back then really couldn't handle the resolution at all. I ended up getting the 1680x1050 screen which was much easier to read with windows XP. Windows XP didn't scale well at all either, if you screwed with the DPI settings often windows would be mis sized or web pages didn't look quite right.

Fast forward to now with windows Vista, I think 1920x1200 is absolutely perfect on a 17" and really wouldn't want any lower. The icons and text are perfectly sized and the 8800M can handle a lot of games at that resolution, and even a lot of the lesser resolutions scaled down didn't look all that bad (there is always an option to play at 1600x1200 as well with an inch border to the left and right)

    Just my 2cents.
