Hi everyone.
Yes its true, it happened. I dont know why but its just dead. Fired it up this morning and it wont turn on. It turns itself off after 10sec so I cant even go to BIOS or start windows with safe mode to check the problem. I ll have to call XoticPC on monday. I have a question though. I know Sager has the 30 day return policy. Now I thought I ll get use to it but the 17' WUXGA is tooo much for me so if I m sending the laptop anyway I might just order a different screen and I would also like to order 9800GTX SLI instead of 9800GT. How do u think they will handle this situation? Can I return a laptop that is broken? The laptop itself is in perfect condition (no scratches, not even one dead pixel) and I have everything to it as well (cables, bag, original boxes etc. etc.)
Now on monday it wil be 27th day since I ve received it so I can still return it but will they have to fix it first and then send it back to me and then I wont be able to return it after the 30 day period or will they just let me return it for credit and order differently speced 9262 that suits my needs?

Why don't you PM Justin. I think his screen name is Justin@Xotic. He works for them and I'm told he reguarly checks this forum. There's another Justin that works for them and his is JustinN@Xotic but I haven't seen him. Also, Xotic has there own forum on their website. They could also be monitoring that as well.

From what it sounds like thou, you may have a fried MB. Did you try turning it on with just the battery or taking the battery out to see if that works. It could also be that your RAM or something else is failing POST.
-
It actually sounds like he has a bad memory card. If you put a dead memory card in any of the d900 systems, the system will continually reboot itself. If that is the case, removing the memory and testing one card at a time would be very helpful. If its a ram problem, than its nothing major, the memory just has to be rma'ed.
If it happens that the motherboard is dead, I would think that, tehy wouldnt be so kind to change your system specs if they have to invest say $500 for a new motherboard into a system.

return it - you don't want a machine like that. xotic to my understanding has a 30 day no questions asked return policy.
get something that works, and that you may be happier with. -
I tried turning it on with the battery but I get the same results. I cant take the battery out as I dont have the necessary screwdriver
I ve posted the thread in here as I know there are plenty of sager people around and plenty of them ordered from xoticpc so maybe someone has the answer -

After spending some time with the 9800M GTX, I'm not sure its worth the extra expense it costs. It runs stock like the 8800M GTX ran overclocked, and I have not had the ability to OC the 9800M GTX yet, but I still am not sure it was worth $400 extra. We'll see once I can mod the vBIOS.
-
D'oh,this hurts
-
9800 gtx is not worth the cost unless you have money to spend. sager has 30 day no questions asked return policy so they won't give you a hard time about anything. you can do what you like as long as you are within the 30 day return period.
-
yeah return it bro. ESPECIALLY if it is broken !
-
That really sucks!
I would return it for another one. -

MOBO is fried, had a similar problem not too long ago. Fried MOBO and GFX card replacement - suggest you RMA asap.
Side note: This has happened to at least one other person on this board in the last 2 months, bringing the total to 3 that we know of so far (yours included).

Same thing happened to me about 1 week ago (my Sager NP9262's config is in the link in my signature), I am currently sending it for repairs, I thought the problem only had to do something with the graphics cards (caps, scroll and num lock lights flash on boot, no POST, then the laptop turns off by itself), now I know that the problem is worse than I thought.
-
your battery might not be charged, power cord might be unplugged
-
I have successfully set up a RMA with Xotic. I ll be without a laptop for some time but I m pretty busy right now so I doesnt bother me that much
(that 9262 was for personal use)
Thats the new config I ve ordered:
17' WSXGA+ --- I know, I know but my eyes cant take the 1080p res.
Intel Q9650 12Mb L2
4Gb DDR2 800Mhz
Nvidia GeForce 9800m GTX SLI 2gb
3x320Gb 7200rpm 16Mb
Vista 64Bit Ultimate.
Hopefully putting together two 9800M GTX's in SLI will result in some noticeable difference. I m hoping for at least 20% more power, so in 16000ptk range in 3dMark06. We'll see. I ll let u guys no whats going on asap, and I cant wait to see those benchmarks as well -

When the heck fire did I miss that? I had no idea the GTXs where available in SLi already....gettin slow in my old age.
-
The upgrade to 9800M GTX is a mere 1200$
-
Only $1200
-
o.0 9800M GTX SLi.. =/

I ve just sent my 9262 to Sager. I used UPS but the price .... terrible. I had to insure it but the insurance for $4100 cost so much. It came up to $200 for the package
I have a speeding ticket still to pay this month
...
-
Good Luck! I hope everything works out well for you.
-
-
Holy crap, $200 for shipping!!!!!!! Wow... I wish I had that kind of money! Took me long enough to save up the $3,391 I needed to buy mine. :O
-
!!! After dropping $4k on a new laptop, I wouldn't have $200 for anything, let alone to ship a bad NB back to Xotic.
I guess this where Xotic takes a hit and Dell and Alienware get a plus.
But one could look at this two ways.
1. Xotic doesn't have many NBs coming back to them so that's why they don't pay for shipping.
2. Alienware and Dell are so use to getting NBs back that they decided to pay for shipping when it comes back. Or they already put that in the price when you buy the thing. -

Well that the deal. UPS has a range of insurance levels. If u re insuring the package for a high amount, they re gonna put u in the highest group available. The package itself costs about $32-40 with packaging to send from Chicago to California. But Xotic said that if the laptop arrives even slightly scratched they are gonna deduct that from my credit so I had to insure the package.

Those are the RMA "rules" from XoticPC:
Please follow the following procedures:
1. Clean and physically inspect the notebook for any nicks, scuffs, or scratches and take note of.
2. Backup all data files before sending the notebook in for repair. (XOTIC PC is not responsible for any lost data)
3. Put the notebook inside a plastic bag (For Repairs, Please do not include the a/c adaptor unless the problem appears to be power related (unless otherwise specified by XOTIC PC). Do not ship any other accessories. XOTIC PC is not responsible for accessories that are included with the notebook).
4. Use the original manufacturer box to pack the notebook in. Make sure the notebook is tightly secured and not moveable. Put the manufacture box inside a bigger box filled with foam popcorn or bubble wrap. (It is critical that the notebook is pack according to our standards to avoid damage during shipping because XOTIC PC is not responsible for damage caused by improper packaging)
5. If there is no manufacture box available then wrap the notebook with a bubble wrap specially around the corners. Place inside a smaller box securely. Next, put that small box inside another bigger box filled with foam popcorn or bubble wrap. (It is critical that the notebook is packed according to our standards to avoid damage during shipping because XOTIC PC is not responsible for any damage due to improper packaging)
6. Write RMA Number, on the top of the shipping box.
7. Please ship the package to:
Sager Midern Computer Inc
18005 Cortney Court
City of Industry, CA 91748
8. Insure the package for the full value of the unit. (The purchase price)
9. Please include User Name & Password for Windows OS if there is one. (Pertains to repairs)
10. **** Please include a return address and a detailed problem description with the notebook **** (For Repairs Only)
11. Please do not request status until we have had the notebook for at least 3-4 days.
Please let us know how we can be of further assistance.
Thanks, -
If you look at Xotic's site, it seems to show the Sager policy.
http://www.xoticpc.com/warranty-service-returns-ip-6.html
You mean Xotic actually has their own policy and doesn't cover shipping the machine in to Sager?? -
Unlike Dell that sells scratched systems at a discount.
Again, because Dell get so many of them back. -
-
>.> whats all this talk about warranty covering shipping? Just read this thread again and it looks like he is sending it back for a refund to order a higher speced model. Granted he is returning a defective unit, but he is still returning it wich does not include free shipping under the 30 day return policy. Not only that, but I believe they will also take out the shipping fee that was charged for him to receive the unit, plus he will be paying shipping on a brand new unit from them.
-
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
As others have pointed out the reason shipping is not covered is because he is requesting a refund and doing a new machine with different specs. (applying the credit towards a new machine) If the customer was going to do a "repair" all shipping (to and from) would be covered.
-
Ahh, then Kudos to Xotic.
But to get back to the price he paid for shipping. To quote my hero,
"Aye Caramba!" -
Thanks all for the clarification(s).
I guess it just makes me mad that UPS charges so much and I felt bad for the OP.
Next time, try priority mail. It worked wonders for me when shipping back to Sager. -
I got 20% discount off my next purchase through UPS though. But still the total came to $198. I needed that money for my ticket that I still have to pay before 21st. But come on at least there is nice weather outside ...
9262 is dead
