So this is for my new (week old) 9262 from xoticpc. Yep same one with the hot pixel. Lately it started making a strange crackling/clicking noise coming from the lower right corner. This would be where my right arm rests when I type. It's not the usual "processor is calculating something" noise, it's faster and higher pitched. It also seems to occur without respect to what I'm doing on the laptop.

I (used to) build desktops, so I'm pretty attuned to the normal hum and whir of a machine, and for still have good ear to distinguish between when something is seriously awry and when it's just a dirty bearing on a fan (for example). But laptops are magic to me :) so I don't know whether to be worried about this or not.

Anyone know what hardware lives under the right arm as you type? That would be a good place to start.

Could be a hard drive; I'd use a hdd utility to check the health of your hdds.

Thx for the links. I have a Toshiba MK2049GSY btw. I'll see if any health stuff target that.

Contact XoticPc right away and let them know about it. They`ll help you out, or PM Justin@XoticPC , I think he`s online now.

umm... Nota, try this... Put your ear to the Power brick.. YES the power brick... I originally thought my computer was making the exact same noise. But i realized this squeal/hum was actually coming from the power brick.... its a longshot.. but may be it.

Close... it ended up coming from the cooler (which I also ordered from Xotic PC). Whew. It's just not a healthy sound.

I have the Zalman 2000 which I recommend if you have a problem or have to return that one. The Zalman I have is very quiet.

Oh yeah. :) Its amazing what the psychological effects of an unhealthy noise coming from your 9262 can cause.

Or on anything else, for that matter - to my mind, there is nothing worse than the death rattle of a hard drive that is slowly eating itself up, particularly when you don't have the cash right then and there to replace it.
