Evaluating these two. The 9262 would have the Q6700, 4GB with a single 8800M
The Precision M6300 would have the X9000 (or maybe the T9500), 4GB, with the 3600M Quadro.

Most tasks are graphics, CAD, no gaming. I have been waiting for 9262 to come out with the 3600M Quadro, but they are too darn slow.

Both machines spec out close enough in price that it is not a factor.

ps HP supposedly has the 8710w with the 3600m Quadro, but I can't get to that configuration on their website.... I guess I should factor HP in as well.

Which one would you go for?

Do you mean X9000? Or T9XXX?

It would depend on what kind of work you would be doing on it, knowing that you mentioned less games and more CAD... i would go for the 3600m. It will also depend on what CAD programs you'll be using... some are less graphic intensive than others, so you wouldn't need as strong of a card. But in the end the open gl support will only make cad modeling a bit better than the non open gl card. Even my 1600m struggles while modeling in Autodesk AliasStudio.. wish i could have waited for the 3600m.

Couldnt you just get liek a gateway p series with an 8800m and use quadro drivers ?? I know you can do the opposite, using quadro cards with geforrce drivers, etc.

Doesn't quite work that way. And if he's willing to pay for a 6300 or a 9262, I would go for either of those machines over the P series any day.

I think performance would be similar, but I would go for the 6300.

The 9262 does have the advantage of Sli though. You can get the HP8710W with 3600M, but HP's website isn't the most conducive for navigation. You might wish to check resellers instead.

The HP is a bussiness class, and having dealt with that, and still using a BC for school work and using it EVERYDAY , I`d recommend an HP anyday.

the m6300 is also business class, the customer service from for me has been great. My charger died out, they overnighted me another.

the m6300 has the m90/m1710 style

imo it is light and sturdy and looks and feels great!

I miss my m1710 It was awesome. I would have kept her if I could use the 8800m in it.

Trust me when I say, the HP is top of the line in terms of build quality. It`s also light and looks very professional. And would probably end up cheaper than the Dell.
But there are offers and offers...

the hp business class stuff ROCKS. i honeslty would have went that way 100% if at the time i bought my system they had something more powerful out.. ive owned them and they are built so solid..

i personally would NEVER buy another dell again.. after my dealings with them that is my choice i know but no way would i ever go there again.. just maybe me though..

but if i needed it to be at all portable imo i would get the dell out of the two.. dont get me wrong the 9262 is sooooooo nice.. but it would also be a beast to carry around imo
