Hey can anyone tell me what they undervolted their q9650 in their system down to? I know it just came out but I am looking to squeeze all the battery life I can out of it. I really dont understand a lot of what I am doing with it and I am afraid to mess it up . I started to use rmclock but when I went to do a stress test, I noticed orthos was only working on two cores. I am stuck there. Also, I have no idea how to use rivatuner. I figure I would ask you all for help because I really dont want my computer to die.
Also, has anyone been able to install Vista Battery Saver? Mine is hanging right now and has been that was for about 10 minutes. I cant ever get it to fully install.

EDIT: Instead of making a brand new thread, I thought I would add some temperature discussion on here too.

Pretty sure orthos only uses two cores, theres a way to to get to work with 4 cores, by running two orthos at the same time and changing cpu affinity's, but using prime95 would be a lot easier. http://www.majorgeeks.com/Prime95_d4363.html

Here is a guide for how to use rivatuner http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=81852

Hmm, that guide to rivatuner doesnt show me how to underclock it. Its good for monitoring the temperature once it is underclocked, but I need to underclock it first.
With rmclock do I really have to let it run a stress test for 45 minutes?

    >.> underclock what with rivatuner? Rivatuner is not used for underclocking the cpu and if you mean the gpu, it does that on its own if you enable powermizer. I've only run the stress test once for 45 minutes, haven't done it again, I usually do it for 15 minutes to make sure temps have actually decreased enough to my liking. Post your stock volts and I can give you a pretty safe area to start at for undervolting.

If you want to underclock your CPU, visit flipfire's Undervolting Guide... in the NBR Cooling Central.

If you are trying to do this to conserve battery power... then it might not make too huge of a difference since the D901C draws so much power.

Actually, I was suprised how long the system last on battery, with the brightness at level3 and my cpu undervolted and limiting it to 2ghz, I get almost 2hours.

So I dont need to undervolt my gpu at all?
To Gophn: It may not give me a whole lot of battery life, but it will at least give me some. I am just afraid to mess up my computer.
    Heres my voltages:
    Index 0: 1.1v
    Index 1: 1.15v
    Index 2: 1.2v
    Index 3: 1.25v

Is there anyway to turn off both windows firewall and network discovery/filesharing? Its bugging me that you have to have the firewall on if you turn off file sharing or network discovery.

you can test the stability of the CPU.

run stress tests for CPUs like:
    - wPrime (1024M Test ... set at 4 threads)
    - Orthos

You can undervolt it, but its not worth doing it, the system actually undervolts and downclocks the gpu while not gaming, you can do it more, but it will take several graphics card flashes to find a stable undervolt, its not worth messing with it if you have never done bios flashing. Stick to undervolting the cpu.

Well, I successfully undervolted my cpu. I really havent noticed any battery increase when I am doing basic tasks like surfing the internet, but I get an extra 15 or so minutes when doing cpu intensive tasks. I was hoping it would've been better, but 15 minutes is 15 minutes.

So I have been messing around with my computer lately seeing how the temperatures fluctuate with my various tasks and I noticed that even when I block the vents, I still have pretty good temperatures. The way that I sit, the two middle vents sre wide open and the two side vents are only half blocked. If I do this, all of my temps stay under 45 degrees if I have max fans on. So that being said, is there any reason that me blocking half of the outer two vents would be a problem? I mean, the temperatures look fine, but I thought maybe there might be some type of problem with what I am doing. Generally, I only have it on my lap during a few of my lecture classes at school because it is too big to fit on the table that comes out from the seat.

Awesome, I can definitely invest in something like that. I just wanted to see if I was doing any damage so far since the temps weren't high. I'll probably have class once or twice before the lap desk comes in though :( so Ill have to position it a different way I guess.
