My m860tu got some pretty high temps. Screenshot attached. I got these by playing a game in silent mode for around 20 minutes. Why diddent i get an alarm or something? The ACPI hit 100°.. /start joke/ The reason i discovered these temp was because i accidently spilled some water onto my keyboard and it came out as steam... /end joke/ :)

no, actually, that's too hot (unless you live in Australia, which you don't). i would suggest cleaning out the fan and vent with compressed air to remove dust.

btw, you wouldn't see too much steam - water hits its boiling point (where it turns to steam) at 100°C ;)

    The ACPI was 100 :p

But its brand new. Got it last Monday. So it can't be dust. It even has that black foil of some kind covering the fan..

Check the CPU and the GPU thermal compound... or they have to much in it and it´s not applied correctly, or the base of the cooler is not in perfect contact with the cores.

    ;)

Don't play games in silent mode. The fan doesn't kick in.

Uhhh, is that black foil breathable, or not? If not, take it off, ASAP - you're just about to permanently pith your system through overheating.

Also, before you remove anything, get a witness, and take a whole bunch of pictures of the system and everything you do to it - you may want or need proof of the condition the system was in if you need to make a warranty claim.

Umm...... 87° on the CPU should be just as worrisome.

Gaming in silent mode? Have you gone daft!? I'm revoking your Gamer Pass son.

"94° 9800gts normal? Oh by the way, I'm gaming in silent mode." LOL.

if i am not mistaken, the black foil is actually there for a purpose--it allows the one fan to cool multiple components not unlike a heat duct carrying heat from the furnace to many parts of the house

I know that the fan doesnt kick in when doing it. But I thought it would give an alarm or just shut down. So if i ever start a game in silent mode and leave the computer in the game, it will just fry itself?

Ahh, now that's a useful explanation - since the OP just described it as "black foil" I had flashbacks to the NBR member who reported that the factory technicians had failed to remove the plastic wrapper fully from the cpu and/or the cpu heatsink before applying the thermal paste, leaving a piece of plastic trapped between the CPU and the heatsink - not the most efficient means of removing waste heat.

In that case, OP, please, please, do not remove that black foil.

To be honest, I was told that gaming in silent mode isn't possible, so I once pressed the button during a game, and I was surprised to find out that the fans will not turn back on, no matter what the temp is. I expected that there should be some sort of failsafe, which prevents silent mode above a certain temp and forces the fan back on full blast.

Once, I forgot to turn off the silent mode, and the fans kicked in after ~10 min.

In the past I've forgotten to turn off Silent Mode before using resource-intensive apps, and I've suffered very worrying and sudden overheat-related shutdowns. It seems like Silent Mode really can fry your hardware if you let it.

The laptop is trying its best to please you by keeping quiet like a good servant. Even if it means its death. :p

Man, let those fans blast. Whos going to get pissed off? Mary Sue with her even louder laptop with an integrated card no less? Please.

The fans really aren't that loud so I see no point in using silent mode anyway. Mine is always sitting on a cooling pad though so I'm used to fan noise.

All your temps look pretty hot for only 20 min without fans; are you sure all the vents are clear?

Silent mode + Cooler doesn't seem to be a bad combo either.

Even if im in normal mode the ACPI allways hit 85 degrees.. Do I need a notebook cooler or is 85 acceptable? My lappy is on a table all the time but still it gets very hot.

Yes, they are extremely loud and are on all the time. I suggest using a non-gaming notebook for comparison.

To Orluff: 85 degrees max is pretty normal. I would say your temperatures are fine, just don't game on silent mode (at least intensive games, I tend to play D2, Starcraft, pre-2004 games on silent mode)

Extremely loud and on all the time? No absolutely not, unless you're gaming or there's something wrong.

When I'm browsing the web, my laptop is very quiet. A hum of the fan is all I hear.

Well silent mode is dead silent. Normal browsing in a very quiet room tends to annoy me. So im browsing in silent mode. Gaming... OH MY they are loud! Gonna invest in some nice headphones after x-mas. Any suggestions? Im not looking for 500$ headphones but not 20$ crap either.

I once hit that temp, but I was running an extremely heavy overclock, plus the hardware is about 2x yours, and fans were full bore.

You need to turn your fans on. If its still bad, like said before, many times there will be too much thermal compound applied. Buy some high end thermal compound and rre-apply it.

is there a way to turn up the fan speed? i thought all Clevo's had that. that's way too hot.

and to be honest, I don't think any notebook cooler can really help actual temps in the machine. it may feel cool to the touch (or on your lap!), but i've yet to see a really good cooler that actually lowers cpu or gpu temps significantly.

Antec Notebook Cooler decreases hard drive temperatures on this machine to 43-45C.

I really don't understand how people can call this laptop loud. To each his own I guess. Whilst rendering and running 3d applications in the library and the fans kick in, sounds like a slight breeze coming but it doesn't bother anyone.

No, there is nothing wrong. I don't really care cause I'm always on silent mode when I am not gaming. But don't tell me not being on silent mode and browsing the web is quiet. If you still believe that then your:

    A) Lying to yourself, as a fanboy would do.
    B) Never used a 'quiet' laptop.

I don't find it really loud, but I can't deny the fact that it doesn't go silent either. Its acceptable but its louder compared to other laptops.
