i was wondering if the Glossy will be plagued by the same issue of the matte? since im considering returning this to the reseller to replace it? how many of you guys have the 95% gamut Glossy? do you see the red trailing or afterimages? also if i don't want to calibrate my screen would a the normal glossy screen be better?
thanks

lol i some of the issues under control but i wish u best of luck, i really picky about color, i just brought down the total brightness and red gamma down a bit in a Nvidia COlor management, the vales i have was Brightness @ 42% and Red Gamma @ .97 it got rid of the red afterimage and most of my problems lol now i just notice a low hissing/static sound from speakers but it may be software but its not that noticeable im just a really picky person :\

Well I'm glad I changed my order from a P150HM w/95% gamut matte to a P170HM with stock screen. However should I want to upgrade my screen in the future, does anyone out there with a P170HM/NP8170 have an upgraded screen they could give a mini review on? Either the B173HW01 V4 or V5, the 3D 120Hz 72% matte, or the Chinomei Innolux 72% matte.
-
I've done a lot of looking at the screen options. While I own the stock screen for the 151HM, not either of the upgraded ones, I feel from reading the reviews I posted in the link below (See my post @ bottom of page 8) and seeing people post more often complaining about saturation with the Matte screen, that yeah, the 95% glossy does seem to be less of a problem.

Mainly, to note where I came up with the final thoughts I did:
I based it on looking at the diagrams that represent the color space coverage you'll see in the display section.
For best results though, it'd be ideal to hear from someone regarding their experiences with a non-calibrated 95% Glossy before you took the plunge to send it back, and change it... probably gonna cost you at least return shipping?
In case you don't, hopefully this helps some. -

Thx that was helpful but it seems that all the issues i've come across can be fixed if you put the time to adjust the Nvidia Color management (Trial and Error FTW). I will most likely be sticking with this screen but later who knows. But i still want to know someone's experience with 95% glossy screen. also does the 1 year part and labor warrenty mean i can send it back to them anytime in 1 year to have the screen replace, also does anyone know how to make the nvidia color management settings hold in games such as crysis 2?
-
Some games respect it, some don't. Try it out and let us know. Oblivion for an example that I have, does not respect it.

well here are my results:
Works with Nvidia Color Managment:
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
BF2
Black Ops
GTA 4
Minecraft
WoW
Shattered Horizon
Didn't Work:
Crysis
Crysis 2 -
95% glossy looks and feels great.
It has that 'bright, crisp, saturated' vibe
Even my little brother told me the screen looks awesome. -
What been the problem with the 95% matte screen?
-
some have reported a red hue ghosting effect. I think it can be corrected by good color calibration though.
-
BTW, I haven't noticed such effects in my glossy V.7 screen..
And I watch videos all the time. -
it cannot.
i've screwed around with the color profiles and nvidia color.
no dice. -
I hope my screen isn't like this. Some have reported that letting the GPU handle color works?
-
What else would handle color if not the GPU?..
Just asking. -
WRONG. I have the red ghosting and it doesn't matter which ICC/ICM profile I use.
-
The OS.

I actually got my video glitches to stop by adjusting the Nvidia Color management settings but i got my laptop from rjtech. so who knows
-
I can't find my post that I made recently about how using nvidia to set the color, rather than the ICC/ICM profiles, INCLUDING the Spyder-created ones, gives me some vertical angle viewing latitude without the ridiculous amount of color shift (red from above; green from below). Today I just discovered that if I change any of the Nvidia color settings away from 50%, there is simply no way to avoid the vertical angle viewing color shifts! Damn! What that means in practical terms, is that I can't stop the reddish cast when viewed head on, if I don't want a lot of color shifting when I move my viewpoint in the slightest. I had hoped I could adjust the Red Channel Brightness down a little bit to make things look more neutral. If it weren't for viewing angle issues, it would very easy to adjust the screen, without (for non-photography work) resorting to Spyder calibration, IMO.
THIS IS A VERY FINICKY FRICKIN' SCREEN! -
ghosting aside, i'm beginning to think this screen isn't worth it if you never calibrate it.
besides, i use linux.
so calibration just isn't going to happen. -
agreed--w/o calibration, the screen has too much of a color cast. criminal, really. Of all the products I have with screens, this one is the most obnoxious as far as neutral color (or lack, thereof) is concerned. having said that, colors like red really POP, so that if evaluating photos (or more importantly, editing them), the extra gamut is a wondrous thing. for all else, it just seems like too much trouble for too little gain, IMOl
-
do you think it's worth asking sager to downgrade me to the standard screen when i rma?
it'll definitely prevent getting another bad screen. -
if you don't need wide gamut, don't get it. seriously.
-
Well, I beg to differ..
Colors pop out in games as well, and they do really look vivid;
unless you need absolutely neutral colors, then you can calibrate it.
The contrast / brightness of the 95% gamut screen is higher than stock, isn't it?
I would always go for the better screen, I didn't calibrate mine and it looks super vivid and saturated but it still looks better than the desktop LED monitor. -
same question as ryan
-
this particular screen is more problematic than it ought to be. just look around you at all the complaints. if it was simply more vivid (which it is), and problem-free, then I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind spending the extra cash. But that's not the case.
-
i got the gamut matte, probably the best screen lcd ive seen so far.
-
Well, I have the glossy so I can't really comment on the matte screen plagues.
With screens being downgraded in terms of pixels and quality ( compared to IPS, Flexview, RGBLED, etc. )
I'm really surprised that there are consumer laptops being offered not just a 1080p upgrade but an upgrade to the B+RG tech right now.
To me, I feel that there aren't too many of people complaining about screen issues to just determine that the V.4 screen is a faulty screen.
I'm just stating my opinion, the screen is noticeably bright, crisp, and vivid; and if people don't need them for photo calibrations or need that neutral screen, this vividness plays off in games, videos, etc.,
and I would get this screen for sure, any time. -
Killerinstinct Notebook Evangelist
I have to agree with u, it is the best screen i have seen so far, im just happy i got my issues fix
...
-
The colors are so bright with the gamut screen.
-
any updates about what theyre gonna do to your screen?
-
Sager told me to wait a few days, but I'm getting pretty close to my 30 days since shipping.
Not sure what do or if Xotic will help me out with a grace period. -
I didn't expect it to be so bright.
