I seem to think that the 9600M GT is a gpu with heat and battery problems, and therefore is making me stray away from the NP2096. I know sager build quality and cooling system is good, but the 9600M GT is still a concern to me. Anyone care to correct me as to why the 9600M GT isn't as bad as I think it is?

It is a fine GPU. But it is getting a little dated, as of recent there have been Asus's that have come with a 9800m for the same price.

The 9600M GT doesn't have any issues, at least none that I'm aware of or experienced. However, if you are looking to do heavy gaming, then I would suggest looking at a more powerful GPU. I am personally a light gamer and I find the 9600M GT to be quite capable for my intended purposes but others may need more power. I should say though, that even with the 9600M GT, I'm still able to play most games in medium settings at decent resolutions, sometimes even reaching resolutions like 1680x1050 in highly optimized games like COD4 and Left 4 Dead.

I used a 9600M GT in a M860TU and the temps never went over 55*C under full load and usually idled around 40*C. I know the 9600M GT in some HP models gets up to 95*C but that is not due to a poorly made card but rather a very poorly designed cooling system. It is a very capable card and as MrPresident said it handles most every game at medium res.

You could be thinking of the 8600M GT which had some terrible issues and you should avoid it like a plague.

Also the GT xxxM version of the 9600M GT is the GT 130M, which is has slightly higher clocks and is on the 55nm process so it should be cooler and use less power. I haven't seen it available yet on any laptop but I may not have looked hard enough.

The 9600M GT won't dissapoint but I'd try looking for a GT 130M or maybe a GT 160M.
