I was wondering just how much better this was than the 8600m GT, if it is at all. I'm looking at the 2096 as the 8660 maybe a bit too much laptop for what I need. How does (or should if benchmarks aren't out) does this card handle games out today (aka Orange Box, COD4, Oblivion, dont care about crysis) at 1680x1050 rez? Just wondering how close I can get to max with current games as Fallout 3 is the closest thing to a resource hog game I might get in the future.

the 9600M GT might be twice as good if it has a 256-bit memory interface... like its desktop brother.

The 8600M GT only has a 128-bit memory interface... which is why its considered a mid-range videocard.

UPDATE: No.... the 9600M GT is using a 128-bit memory interface.

Too bad, I was hoping to see a 256-bit mid-range card for the notebooks this year.

Therefore, the 9600M GT is still better than the 8600M GT, but probably only by 10-15% for the look of things. Its slightly under the performance of the 8700M GT.
