I could have sworn there was a model of Sager/Clevo that had the capability of having a 980 instead of 2 980m cards in SLI. Is that true? If so, which one?

My plan is to get something like this config:

6700k, 64gb ram, 980, 512GB Samsung M.2 NVMe, 1TB and Intel 802.11AC on whichever I get. I had a P750ZM with 4k and wasn't too entusiastic about it so I will probably go 1080 IPS. What are your thoughts on this config? I suspect I could go with a cheaper video card and upgrade it in September.

It's the P870DM that is the Clevo model number for it (or Sager NP9870 as Meaker mentioned).

@flyboynm , at one point the P775DM-G was right up there with the P870DM with a 980 desktop mobile model:

Nvidia is putting desktop-caliber GTX 980 GPUs in laptops
    http://www.pcgamer.com/nvidia-is-putting-desktop-caliber-gtx-980-gpus-in-laptops/

"We don’t have pricing information or exact release dates on the laptops launching with the 980, but here are the ones coming in the near future:

    • Asus GX700
    • Clevo P775DM-G
    • Clevo P870DM-G
    • Gigabyte Auros RX7Y4
    • MSI GT72
    • MSI GT80
Nvidia also told us that like with the 980M, there will be SLI configurations of the full-size 980 in laptops, too. That’s likely as much GPU muscle as you’re going to find in a laptop until sometime in 2016, when Nvidia has a new generation of cards to roll out."

It looks like the 980 desktop mobile GPU model has been eliminated:

    Products > Gaming > P775DM-G

Update: @Prema says it's actually the P775DM1 - which does exist

The P775DM has never been the GTX 980 model. That's the P775DM1. ;)
